Re: Beginner site on NW wind

Yeah it looks like the forecast is lightening up a bit. Never know though it is still a ways out. If the winds come up I'll probably head there as well.

fingers crossed

Re: Which Kite to Bring

I'd go big. That Zephyr is supposed to have great upper range. In August around here you'll be lucky to get a day over 20mph. Look at the statistics for each site around the cities on Windalert such as the one below for Waconia. LIGHT WINDS Unfortunely it is one of our lower months. End of August it...

Re: Beginner site on NW wind

Malmo is the best option for NW winds. As long as it doesn't go NNW, you should be fine. It will be great side or side on conditions. Walk as far out as you can stand and you have a few miles down the eastern shore of shallow waters. There is a narrow trench that allows boats to get out but otherwis...

Re: Movie Gathering- Children Of The Wind - Bonaire

looks like a great video, even for those not connected to the wind as so many of us are. Looking forward to it.

Click the link above and check out the trailer. Pretty amazing

In order for it to come to the area we need more people to commit.

Re: New Rider

Welcome to the area. Unfortunately most of our lakes get deep pretty quickly so launches aren't quite as easy as Hatteras. As the other rider pointed out Mille lacs is by far the best place to ride and the best place to work on stuff. Malmo on the NE corner has shallows that extend about a half Mile...

Re: Lets gather at Mille this Thursday and Friday

yes what a great day yesterday. LOVE LOVE LOVE Mille. Nothing like those big rollers, clean troughs, and steady wind. What a playground. Lots of great smiles on the water. There were a few people working on body dragging etc at Reddy. I highly recommend Malmo for that. The amount of shallows is so m...

Re: Lets gather at Mille this Thursday and Friday

Scanning the forecasts this morning I'm thinking of going west instead of North. It looks like the wind may not make it as far east as Mille and stay mainly in the western half of the state. There is a crew of us heading to Miltona just north of Alexandria. Just over 2 hours from the cities. The lau...

Re: Anyone kiting Waconia Friday AM?

I would second that. There is a small sand bar and docks and a boat launch and a bluff, etc etc. at Waconia not the best place for figuring things out. Malmo on Mille Lacs on the other hand has shallows that are 1/2 mile by 4-5 miles. Perfect for working on stuff. The winds are a lot more steady as ...

Re: Lets gather at Mille this Thursday and Friday

I'm going to look again in the morning. The local lakes will be a zoo with boaters. I'm going to head up unless it drops below 15-20mph. Surprisingly Malmo and Reddy can have very different winds. I usually check both.

Lets gather at Mille this Thursday and Friday

Conditions look incredible for Thursday and Friday on the north side of Mille. Reddy creek and Malmo should be good.

Re: Slingshot CSS Line Replacement

If I remember correctly the benefits of that bar came from a pretty tight relationship between the lines and that bungie. If you sheathed end is too large it won't work effectively. Couple of suggestions. I think I have some extra Slingshot Lines. We could probably find one or a set that would work ...

Re: Gathering this year at Milly?

Invites are not needed. The gathering has a history of being the non event of the summer. There is no registration, no formalities, non of that stuff than can clog the essence of the sport, getting together, hanging a bit, riding a bit, hopefully laughing a lot. This approach also eliminates the nee...

Re: Wind Forecaster

I use Windalert.com a lot lately. It's the base for iwindsurf, ikitesurf, sailflow and others. THIS YEAR it seems to be pretty accurate with its forecasts. Seems like every year each of these groups change their algorithms that drive their modeling and they become more or less accurate. As I mention...

Re: Help with T3 below the bar depower

I highly doubt your best option is to get an above the bar adjustment. That is so 2002, and such a step backward. All that crap up there flailing around, who would want that? All SS kites since about 2009 have a thinner more dense adjustment line and a better cleat and are much easier to adjust. IMO...

Re: Help with T3 below the bar depower

Never a good idea to run the line all the way out. Hard to adjust and wears the line prematurely. Always cleat it off a bit. I've seen some put an inch of tubing on the line next to the knob to give them a bit more to grab. Also you probably already know this, the best way to release the line from t...

Mendota baby!!!!!. You'll love her. Beautiful lake, great view of the capital. Enjoy. Have an orange custard chocolate chip ice cream for me at the Memorial Union afterwards. Burgers and beer on the terrace is great post session. Ask your daughter she'll know. Contact Bob. He'll steer you straight.

Re: Mille Lacs Kite Crossing on Facebook

Sorry for the confusion. It just seems like the last few years the communication about this event, or any event, has been pretty poor. There are a few mass emails that go out to past competitors, there are numerous forums that some follow, 3-4 Facebook pages, etc. It's been a nightmare for those try...
