Kite skated from 9 -10 / OK to bad

There was a breakable layer in a few areas that if you hit at any other angle than straight on, lookout!! Your on your but. Better to try and jump over. Not the best conditions.

Yes, the safety line goes through bar with chicken loop. Here are some images showing diagrams of Psycho system. Can't post the links because of the way their HTML is written and they are at obscure places on their website. http://www.loweprofile.com/psycho/depower.gif http://www.loweprofile.com/psy...

7:30AM Tonka: water is frozen/evaporated - skateable

Through some processes of mother nature, all water is gone at 7:30AM. If you get out on area lakes early, (like now) kite skateing should be good. Other lakes in metro area probably similar. Calhoun may be warmer, or melting earlier.

From the designer:

Hi Thomas Yes the bar works great and always unspins. Have used the system for over a year now and only a few times did I have to manually unspin the front lines. The triangular spreader I made my self as I work for a stainless steel fabrication company. I just used 3 off 1" S/S rings welded to...

Parts for system?

Tighe, it looks like they start with a North bar and add the parts, all of which seem easy to buy or make. With the exception of the "front line spreader" or the part that looks like a triangle with a ring at each tip. Have you seen this part used by North or is this something they fabrica...

Psycho ships with spinning leash.

My Psycho shipped with a spinning leash. Or more correctly a bar that you can unwind after doing a spin and a leash that rotates with the bar. My rotating leash was not installed but came as an alternative to the one they show in the videos on their web site that does not rotate. So I had to install...

Out on Minnetonka by 10:30 soaked by 12:30! - Pycho report -

I was out on Tonka by 10:30 with little sign of melting at that time but by 12:30 it was a pool with standing water everywhere. Needless to say I was soaked too. Hockey skates work more like Tevas in this weather, my feet (being soaking wet) were much more cold than on a 10 degree day. One positive ...

Nice wind next few days, out of SE.

Nice wind on this meteogram. The ice is gettting smoother. Wind & sun will actually polish the ice to a smoother surface at a pretty quick rate. It should be better after today.

Eric,

What is it and where do you get the metal stake that is screwed into ice, in the video? Looks like nice tool to have for ice kitiing.

TIA

The ice is melting very little as far as I can tell on Mtka. The angle of the sun makes a huge difference. If this was April you would see puddles on the ice every day. But I've been checking a couple times a day in front of my house and the sun is not melting the ice on top. The sun is at about a l...

Ice on 90% is now 4" thick. There were some open spots on the large main bay (Lower Lake) that froze later or may still be open. There are some snow mobiles & ice houses on the lake now. Be prudent and do a check of the bay your going to sail on before you have a kite to contend with. I thi...

49.7 MPH on skates.

My GPS clocked me at 49.7 on hockey skates on Minnetonka, using a 9.m kite. I could have gone faster but the skates were getting very, very, squirrely. Quite a ride though. I think I'll try skis next time, the skates just don't feel right.

Minnetonka froze over on Monday night, 75% - 95% frozen.

Minnetonka is 75% - 95% frozen. The smaller bays like Wayzata bay out to kite Island appear to be 99% frozen. Ice will freeze at a rate of 1/2" to 3/4" per day in this cold weather. So by next Sunday or Monday there should be enough ice to begin testing it out. Be careful, Minnetonka can h...
