Re: Xmas Eve day on an easterly?

Upper Lake Minnetonka has been frozen longer so has more snow on it and safer ice. For a straight east like tommorow. You could use Mound bay park on co road 110 in Mound. I am going to be Kiting Phelps, Spring Park, and East Upper. Use Spring park boat landing on Co road 15 for access to Spring Par...

Re: Today or tomorrow?

Rode all over upper lake Minnetonka today. Started on Phelps bay. Cut between Goose and Spray Island into east upper Lake. Then cut up through Spring Park Bay to Black Lake Channel. After cutting around in Spring Park Bay for a bit I headed down into east upper and worked upwind into Carmans Bay to ...

Re: New Kiteboarder... Need Sage Advice!!!

I can't claim to be a sage since I changed to kiting in march 2007 after 20 years windsurfing. For me I found that the low end grunt and huge depower make bow kites the right 1st kite for this area of the country. We have gusty winds with allot of low end marginal days. My 14 square meter kite gets ...

Re: Anyone cutting fresh tracks?

Sure was a great session on Cooks bay yesterday. Thanks to the other 4 riders that showed up and colored the sky with your kites. The fresh snow was fast and nice. Perfectly powered on the 14 all day. 8) That sunset was a nice gift. It painted all the snow orange for my last few cuts across the bay....

Re: Anyone cutting fresh tracks?

I am thinking of riding Cooks Bay out of Al and Almas boat charters and restaurant on Tuxedo Blvd in Mound. Looks like it could be a good spot with current wind direction. hope to leave by 12:30 or 1 give a call if you are interested or need directions.

Re: Upper Lake Minnetonka has bays ready to kite.

I had a great 1st snow kite session. Spent the day cutting around on Phelps bay. It was froze before the snow storm so it was possible to set a good edge. I tried cutting between Goose and pelican island into Spring Park bay. However Spring Park bay froze after the snow storm so was too slick to be ...

Upper Lake Minnetonka has bays ready to kite.

Phelps bay froze over last Saturday so has been iced over for almost a week. Spring Park bay iced over this week and was full of ice boats today. Main lower lake has open water still. But I will be out on Spring Park Bay and Phelps this weekend if the wind comes up. Sunday and Monday look good more ...

Re: First ice report?

All we need now is a night in the 20s with no wind long enough for the water to get glassy and the lakes will freeze. Saturday night into Sunday morning looks promising. Once the lakes stay froze over through the days. You can make an inch of ice a day with long nights in 20s. Lets hope the ice gets...

Re: Happy Thanksgiving to all

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Thanksgiving. One of the things I am most thankful for is our wonderful local kiting and windsurfing community. I purchased my 1st kite March 28th of 2008. So I have known most of you for less than 2 years. You all made me feel so welcome. The support, tips, and wo...

Re: Maybe a hot tub would help.

A portable hot tub would be nice. Propane powered with a quite generator for power. Maybe it should be big and on a pontoon. That way level three certified beer drinkers can loft into the tub warm up and loft back out without the need to land and relaunch the kite or even take your board off. Some o...

Re: Ice over?

As far as the metro area. The earliest ice in was the day after Halloween the year of the Halloween blizzard. The latest ice in I can remember was Dec 22nd. I windsurfed on the 21st and thought I could windsurf on Christmas, just to say I did. However a cold still night froze the lake on the 22nd of...
