Re: Can I bust out my skis yet?

Looks like a nice night for Kiting on Medicine Lake. Is should find some running lights.

I was on Turtle Lake today at noon (Arden Hills). Awesome "groomed" snow. Easy edging, with no slip.

Re: rechargeable pumps

I've got a Bravo pump too. It's the BTP12 Digital from Dave Inks ( http://www.waterstrider.com/kite-pumps.htm ) and I am using the Ni-Mh battery with it. Works great, and will inflate up to 14 psi (plenty of pressure to destroy your kite!) and will stop at the pressure you designate (within 0.1 psi)...

Ice is Nice

These no-snow winter droughts can really be trying. I'm terrible on skates, so I survive by kiting on skies or on an ice sled I made. A week ago my 'Switchblade' from Todd Hanson ( http://mnkiteboy.com ) arrived. I put it on a beater snowboard. Since then I have kited four sessions on it. Wow! This ...

Re: Weak lake ice article

From what I've seen, shallow water will freeze AND thaw faster than deep water. The lake freezes up from the edges into the center. Deeper/large volume lakes add ice slower than shallow/low volume lakes. The lake thaw starts from the edges too. So early, I will trust the edges more than the deep wat...

I kited Medicine Lake today. 12 inches of ice. I parked on the ice. One inch of consistent snow cover, pretty much bonded. A nice session

Re: MN transplant from OR

Rain-X: When we've got sticky/wet snow, I spray my ski bottoms and let it dry before before the bottoms get wet. Drying happens quicker inside, but in warm conditions putting it on at the lake before you rig works too. It doesn't last very long, but it helps. I'm kind of lazy, so rather than re-waxi...

Re: Friday night

I'm going to give the wide beaches at Ramsey Beach WBL a try this afternoon (sometime after 1:00?)... if wind picks up enough.

Re: MN transplant from OR

Welcome JohnK! More people kite here in the winter than in the summer (amazing huh?). In winter kiting you will find that the amount of friction or stickiness of surface conditions varies A LOT and affects you kite choice. So in fast conditions you need less kite than on water. In warm sticky condit...

Re: Upgrading vs Expanding a quiver

I'm 165-175#. I kited winter-only for 3 years before switching from windsurfing to water kiting. The $$/fun ratio for my wind addition has constantly been a very big player in my decision making, where $$ = cost-resale. If I only count the inflatables that I've owned and enjoyed since 2004, that wou...

Monday winds

50s and West winds.

Does anyone know if the Waconia DNR launch open (free of ice) or not?

I'd love to get one more water session.

Re: New to the Forum, New to kiting.

The winter session will be firing up soon. Near Minnetonka, Swede Lake is usually the first around here to thicken up well enough for sessions. Eventually Wayzata Bay, and then the rest of Minnetonka be come our play ground. Spirit Island on Minnetonka, once we can drive out, is the kiting hot spot ...

White Water Kite Lab

I wonder what this winter will bring? Luscious powder sessions? Crusty hard crap? Screaming fast Zamboni fun? Probably all of that, in some kind of order. In general I don't like cold fingers, working rock hard kite valves, and I miss the splash. But once in the grove of winter style set up each dif...

Sat & Sun Wind

Looking good for WBL, Cannon, & Waco this weekend!

Dress for the swim. Water is under 40 now with a little ice around the edge of some of the smaller lakes.
