update - Sat. looks good.

Looks like 12-24 knots from the west tomorrow afternoon. That should make for a great Mahtomedi day. Unfortunately, I'm probably going to be at a Gopher's basketball game... Never should have agreed to go - guess I made the sacrifice for you guys... :P

No snow?

No snow in front of the yacht club, Mike? I thought I saw some there... oh well... Mahtomedi won't work so good on a SW. But, it's supposed to be WSW on Saturday, making it more doable.

In other news:
The Kite Freeze ain't lookin' so good for snow at this point...

Speaking of SW...

It looks like there will be some decent SW wind on Friday, and there is also snow cover in front of the White Bear Yacht Club, which faces SW... So, it should be good over there. If you take off from Ramsey Beach and go to the FAR side of the lake from there, you'll be in front of the WBYC. The wind...

Video stoker - get your kite-skiing fire lit...

Just in time for the holidays, and people's return to the lakes, I thought I'd repost the links to videos of Joe and Vojta last year... Vojta's antics were on pretty firm snow, and Joe was launching and spinning solid ice! Crazy bastards. :-) http://labs.blueearth.net/movies/Joe.mov http://labs.blue...

Thanks!

Thanks! I might have to take you up on that. It's probably a safer/stronger option than just repairing the existing line...

So, what you are trying to say...

So, what you are trying to say, amongst other things implied in those charts, is that we really shouldn't park so close together on the ice around kite-island? :-P That is great info - I've seen load information for ice before, but never with distance-between-objects/distribution stats, as well. -Co...

good idea!

Wow, hadn't even thought about it, but I have some heatshrink tubing here that would be the perfect size. What are the odds? Thanks! Awesome idea.

I've flown it since, and I'm pretty sure the core will hold up. It's definitely nicer to not have to replace the whole line.

replacing bridle lines - foils

I managed to get my B5 kite in a weird tangle, while still being flyable at the same time. I popped it up into the air, and hadn't noticed right away, but one of the bridle lines was wrapped around a few others. The bridles that were together started to shred the single line. The core of the damaged...

Last year...

Last year, when it was still black ice down by Mahtomedi on WBL, Joe L was on a B5 and I was on a 5m AR3.5 Naish. Joe was going 5-10+ faster than me on the foil - I would guess he was hitting 60-70+, no problem... Joe? What do you think? Have you gone faster than today? I'm guessing by quite a bit.....

Excellent

Hey Matt! Sounds like you are doing well, and getting some riding in.

I wanted to let you know - I got a postcard from Murphy (Spirit Lake, remember? :-)) the other day. He wanted to say hello. He and some guys are sailing a boat through the Panama canal. Sounds nice...

Yeah, it's pretty much a "got root?" type of deal... ("root" being the superuser account on Unix systems, FYI/JIC) Frontpage is fine for simple things, I would recommend against it for a discussion forum. The boys at http://www.kitesnowboard.com/ use Ikonboard, and seem pretty pl...

no brainer...

Hank: It's not a total no-brainer to set up. I run a small Internet development company, so I already had an environment I was working in. phpBB happened to fit right in. phpBB will work for anyone who has access to an Apache server running the PHP scripting language. Apache and PHP run on Linux/Uni...

:D Thankyou Tighe! What a great video. I would love to ride some new terrain like that. Lets keep our eyes open for some rolling hills with no fences. We may be into the best sport on this plannet. Pete I seriously think some of the farmland around Afton may offer some of the best winter kiting pot...

Board Choice

If you loved the AHD, you are probably looking for something a little more high-strung than the average soft-deck or compromised "all-around" design. One of the Starboard Formula boards in the standard construction (D-Ram. they also have a wood construction that is lighter, but probably no...

New Site-wide upgrade in place

The version of server software I was using was having a problem with this forum software, so I had to do a little downgrading. It should clear up any and all of the login problems people have been having. Post here or email me , mark[AT]blueearth.net, if you have any more login problems or questions...
