Re: Wetsuit, temps, types
Thanks Tighe. I'm thinking of saving up for the Hyperflex AMP-K. I'll have to do some searching for those convertible sleeves though. I got out today, just dragged. I managed to start figuring out how to put the kite where I want it and keep it there.

Wetsuit, temps, types
There is a high of 70* on Sunday. I have a cheap shorty, but at some point will have to look into a full.
At what temps do you start thinking about wearing a wetsuit? Full/short? Thickness? Front/back zip? Just wondering what the opinions are out there.

hope that helps.
Woman doesn't have many shallows. It's a deep lake with no real public beach, but there is an island with a nice sandbar on the NE and W sides.
The whole West side of Winnie looks pretty empty. I wonder if there is access somewhere?

How to scout kiting spots
What are the criteria? I know bigger is better for lake size, how about specific spots in the lake? I'll have access to Woman Lake (Waconia sized) this weekend. There is a nice sandbar off an island that could maybe work well for launching? I can drive to Winnibigoshish or Leech pretty easily, but w...

I'm also a newb, I've done the 101 lesson with Mike. I managed to get a kite and a board. Still looking for a harness. I'll be out there soon!
Glad to see some other new people checking in.

It was very cool to see all the kites and windsurfers on Waconia.

Just tried Mike K's yesterday. Much more fun than I thought. It's very surreal to stand up on the water.

Re: Wind iPhone apps
WindAlert is nice in theory, but the local stations are not very consistent. They often say down or late.

Wind iPhone apps
Anyone have a good one?
I tried "Wind Geo", but it's not as nice as I expected. Supposedly you can get the wind readings for anywhere, but the maps are not labeled and you can't search.

It is only a 4 page article. It basically says that the sport is dangerous but people love it, and Mille Lacs is the kiteboarders Mecca in MN.

I managed to get up several times and do a few passes today. Made it on and out of the wake and rode switch.
Is kiting as physically taxing as wakeboarding? I have a long way to go.

Board Basics
I want to first get some wakeboarding under my belt before I start taking kiting lessons. I have wakeboard access coming up next week, and I am set on learning. I have gotten up, but it's not easy yet, and I can't stay up once I do. I have been waterskiing and kneeboarding for 15 years. I only slalo...

Re: Renting/lessons for a first-timer
Kiting, or windsurfing? What do people do around here?
What makes a lake good for this, once you get the hang of it? Is a boat needed to bring you out?
I'll be up there the first week of August, so I'll get in touch with one of you soon. Thanks!
