Re: I deleted the Calhoun Post

Coincidentally, on the same evening of this divisive act, one of my favorite bands played one of my favorite songs down at First Avenue. Son Volt - Windfall. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcKqNZKoEzQ&feature=related For those who want to review or continue the banter, I'm sure Eric will maintai...

Re: NW GALE WARNING

Quite the palette of colors on this wave height forecast map... looks like the biggest stuff will land well east of Houghton. I won't be making the road trip.

Re: Mille goes boom

Yep... it was great to ride Father Hennepin on a WNW day in just a shortie. 5.8 and 83 liter board... but just Steve Erickson and me were there to enjoy it. Steve was on a 5.2 and a 79 liter wave board. Here's some mille web cams for you Steve... http://millelacswebcam.com/ http://www.hunterspointre...

Re: Worthington Economic Stimulus Package...

Hey Craig, Just got done unloading all my gear. Thanks for stimulating me to get down there and post some speed. That 36cm Rockit Vector fin was very comfortable at speed- never got the "going over the handle bars" feeling or the "I thought I had a fin- where did it go" dreaded s...

Wind Meter iPhone App

Okay... I'm behind the times and don't own an iPhone. But for those wind junkies who do, this is almost a no brainer. Supposedly this works by correlating the wind noise in the iPhone's microphone with a windspeed. Here's the email I got from a windsurfer in Texas: __________________________________...

Re: 2009 Midwest Speed Quest Update.....

I agree... more wind doesn't exactly equal more speed- especially on a lake. For speed, I'd rather have a steady 25-30 than the 45-50 gusts you guys had a week ago. But it might have been kinda fun to jump on that speed needle CarbonArt board- at my weight pushing 225- I need it to blow at least a s...

Re: 2009 Midwest Speed Quest Update.....

Adam, I have a new 30" Single Screw Powerbox Vector EX speed fin that's never been sailed. I bought a 30 and a 34 from Vector last year for an F2 Thommen 270 that I ended up just selling at the swap (with the 34" fin). I think I worked it out that I'm going to bring the 30" EX down to...

Re: 2009 Midwest Speed Quest Update.....

Whew! I thought for sure you guys would have blown my speed out of the water with gusts hitting 50 on Wednesday... but from Chris's account of the day, it seems like the gusts were stealthy and short-lived. I know my speed won't last- you guys are too fast. How did the new Vector fins work out?

Congrats Randy on becoming a grandpa again! You've gotta be one of the coolest grand-dads around. And congrats to Davin and Jenny... I ran into Davin and Jenny at the swap. Just for the record, my shots were taken between 4:05 and 4:32 pm on 5/20. I'll upload more when I have time.

Re: Cannon--shred alert!

I took a few pics down at Cannon before foolishly rigging a 5.0 thinking it would drop as forecasted. It didn't. I got worked. Lesson learned... don't just bring your sails per the forecast. Finally, around 7, it dropped and I sailed 5.0 powered up til sunset. A few more pics on the gallery page... ...

Re: Cannon--shred alert!

I got in early to leave early. Should be there around 4 to snap a few pics before joining in on the fray. Just in the last hour or so, the St. Paul skyline went hazy with all the pollen and dust being picked up. I think it's gonna be a little furry out there today.

Chris,

I made the same mistake last Friday while looking at last weekend's Mille Lacs forecast. Bryce pointed out that it's in km/hr. That's still plenty windy though. Hope to meet you down in Worthington this season.

Juan,
Thanks for taking and sharing the pictures- you captured some nice shots. Wish it was a little windier to get you some more action to shoot. Hope your back heals up soon so you can get on the water this summer. Are you shooting Nikon or Canon?

White Bear - Bellaire Saturday

When I clicked it at noon on Friday, the Lakawa Mille Lacs wind link had Mille forecast to blow tomorrow at 48 from the NW. I did some digging into other forecasts and it looks like Mille's forecast to gust NW only to around 30. Something's wrong there. So the metro forecasts are a little stronger (...

Re: Windy Worthington Wednesday

Well... it was a good road trip. As I drove west, the wind kept building and building. I pulled up to the lake just before 6 and met Craig Bergh... it was unbelievably windy. Going for speed, I only brought my 5.0 and 5.8- I was relieved when Craig said he had a brand new 4.4 in his attic that he'd ...

Windy Worthington Wednesday

Late notice but does anybody wanna do a road trip this evening? 37-48 mph WNW at sunset. I'm planning on leaving work (St. Paul) at 230pm and heading to Worthington to catch the big blow. My car's loaded up but I bet I can squeeze another rider in. ETA 530pm if my car can overcome the stiff ...

Mille givin' the cold shoulder

Everything was lining up perfect. I have to do a site visit on Thursday to Isle, MN on the south shore of Mille Lacs  Winds forecasted at 35-48 mph from the south  78 degrees and sunny 8) It's still covered in ice. http://www.mnlakecams.com/  I'll do my best to get to Ramsey WBL aft...

Baskin,

I was going to try and show up around 430 but it looks like the wind is forecast to drop off fast. I'll probably have to postpone it til next time. Have fun, be safe if you go.
