Re: How do I learn this sport?

Just a clarification point: Both the 2009 and 2010 RPM have a below-the-bar safety attachment point for the leash. Here are some diagrams. 2009 RPM bar http://kite.li/images/rpm%20bar%202010.jpg 2010 RPM bar http://www.slingshotsports.com/core/media/media.nl?id=29640&c=429740&h=ef367d705981d...

Nate and I are heading up around 8am with kites and surfboards. Sounds like Eric and Terry are going to be up there too.

Re: Give him your thoughts

I was just thinking about Coach while riding on Milly today. The conditions this afternoon reminded me of a really memorable session with him a long time ago. It was a strong NW day at Father Hennepin. I was just a newbie and he was out there boosting huge, clocking the most airtime that I had ever ...

Re: The superior downwinder tomorrow?

Might be interesting. What time are you thinking of? Looks like a good window would be between noon and 3pm. I might be able to set up a chase car or something.

It's starting to blow already. Looks like an epic bus-sized rollers at FH. I'll be there around noon.

3/3, if I count trying to body-drag the race on Sunday. I might miss today though. :(

Re: Opinions: kiting before/after storm front moves through?

Concerning storms, I've always heard that right before they hit it gets really windy. Personally, I like to leave a good safety margin before and after a storm. Gusty, punchy winds are not very fun. I'd go out in good conditions, but I'd pack up when the clouds roll in. I have a couple of meetings o...

Re: The Gathering

Yeah, it was pretty fun. For a grim looking forecast a couple of days before the gathering, I think that we got plenty of power. The downwinder to Reddy was fun, except for a drop in wind at the end. Great to be hanging out with a large crew this weekend.

Re: Racing at the Gathering?

Hey, that sounds like fun! Raleys and S-Bends were getting boring anyway. haha! j/k :D I'll try to do a raley during the race.

Does anyone have a buoy that we can use? If we get a couple of them we might even be able to set up a mini-kiter cross course.

If you're kiting around the cities today (Thursday June 17)

I must admit that the conditions look great. Every pond, lake or river had white caps all over. However, it looks like there's a nasty system moving in with a Tornado watch until 9pm. I'd keep an eye on the sky if I was out there.

Re: Cedar Kiteboard 2 - buildlog

To help in controlling the chop, I think that a flexier board would be more forgiving. A good compromise would be to have flexy tips and a more solid center. That way you can cut through the chop without feeling like you're standing on a piece of rubber. Using thinner tips and thicker core would do ...

Re: WEEKEND BEGINS

Forecast is looking good. There was a lot of cold lake effect last week with South winds, so I suspect that I'll be on big kites this week too. Be at Reddy between 11 and noon with a camera. So if you see me walking in the water don't be shy, especially you Jerry.

Hey Chad, were you able to get out? Wildwood is kinda hidden. It was good today, but the water was a little on the chilly side. The beach is huge because of the low water level. Here's a map with directions. You just have to punch in your start address. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d...

Go UMN Windsurf/Kiteboard! Yeah, it's funny that all the boardheads are around the same department. If you hang around the EE/CS building, I'm the CS grad student with a Slingshot hoodie on. I saw a car in the parking lot with a Slingshot sticker on it. Was that you? It was a beige Nissa Maxima I th...

Benefit for Sports and Music Photographer Jenn Barnett

Most of you already know Jenn who has been showing up at our events and windy days throughout the year. There is a benefit event/concert to help her out with new equipment so she can take better pictures of us. Good music, good atmosphere, good people and good cause. When: Friday, March 26, 2010 Whe...

Re: Lunacy size

I'm about 170 and I ride an '09 132 Lunacy. If you're planning to go more towards unhooked tricks, it's definitely a good board. It's stiff, so it gives great pop off of the water but the trade off is that it is a little chattery on the chop. It just wants to bounce off the little waves. Having a bi...

With light winds, I'm definitely down for helping to run some clinics. Nate, let me know if you need me to drop by on the unhooked/freestyle session.
