Waconia Date Changed

The Waconia Wind & Wave has been rescheduled for the weekend of September 6th & 7th. An unfortunate conflict of dates developed last March when the wrong dates were listed for Waconia on the Mowind calendar, August 30-31, Labor Day weekend. That contributed to the scheduling of the Tour de S...

Re: 08 Mille Lacs crossing

The Crossing is September 26-28. The rule is that it is the weekend of the last Friday in September. The dates were published in the Fleet 8 Update in early July. Anyone not receiving these Updates should contact Fleet-8@juno.com to ensure we have your correct address.

Re: Next Windsurfing Swap???

Eric, always taking the lead. How nice of you to organize a swap meet at the Gathering. Just don't let it overload you so you can't get on the water.

Windsurfer Tuesdays to start on Calhoun

An informal race series for windsurfers will start Tuesday on Calhoun. Tuesdays were selected because that is the only evening Calhoun Yacht Club has no scheduled racing. We will meet at 6:30 for a racers meeting, so everyone should be rigged by then. Those looking for rigging assistance or race inf...

Kiters + Moose = The Crossing

While the Moose Regatta has become the best reason for windsurfers to cross the border in recent years, kiters now have their own reason to head North. The 2008 Moose Regatta will be the second event this side of the Rockies to host both windsurfers and kiters naturally together. Of course, the firs...

Re: lifejackets

Windsurfers in Minnesota have been free to sail without life jackets since 1982. While your board still serves as a flotation device, it should be noted that the sails of today do not necessarily serve as a sea anchor that the original 1976 exemption was based on. Wearing some form of flotation that...

Jan Marie, I believe it was Bucky, the owner of the Y-Club who gave you a ride on the track. Be careful no to make that mistake up there since there is some small town competition present.

Thanks for the coverage, Tighe. I need to add that Matt K was also a major player in the building of the ramp over the Scamp. It gave us an idea of how we might be able to build more portable rails and ramps that would be easier to transport and set up for a three-day event. Gee Nathan, am I part of...

If you are getting into MSP at 8:30, you would have no problem making the race. The problem is there is a mandatory kiters meeting at 10:45 which will take place pretty close to that time. Much of what will be discussed will be in the kiting instructions, but it would be best if you had someone to t...

Kite Crossing looking for help

In its 4th year, the Kite Crossing is looking really good. A third of the pre-registered will be there for the first time. Conditions and forecasts are looking very good. The only down-side is we are short on help. Much of our volunteer pool from Garrison will be in Wisconsin for the final leg of a ...

Thanks for the post, Tighe. Mike Fox....how about a womens division this year???. Steve, is your helmet getting too tight? We've had a women's division since the second Kite Crossing. Last year, we had both ski and snowboard divisions for women, thanks to Emily's input. We are currently finalizing t...

Full Info on Green Lake!

Winterfest at Green Lake should provide a unique atmosphere for this winter version of the Gathering. There is a full social schedule with plenty of food and entertainment. We have procured a special kiter rate of $39.95 per room at the Super 8 in nearby Wilmar. The phone # is 320-235-4444. With the...

Gee Eric, aren't we usually the first to do these things? Actually, windsurfers, kiters and Aussie 18' skiffs race in the Bridge to Bridge race in San Francisco. It is a downwind run from the Golden Gate to the Bay Bridge with a direct-line distance of about 6 miles. Not quite what we are proposing ...

Moving beyond the 25th has proven to be equal to any challenge since it's inception in '82. After losing over a third of our support craft, we have managed to recruit adequate replacements. Tighe has created our new logo for the sweatshirt and it truly reflects the emerging of an iconic event like t...

Barely Two Weeks to the Crossing!

The leaves will again be exploding in color, the waves will turn threatening and the spirit and comradery will peak high, but the Crossing will set sail on a new course for 2007. We have closed the door on the monumental 25 years of the Mille Lacs Crossing and abbreviated the name to simply The Cros...

When we requested our search for boats, we forgot to include inflatables. They have been the most valuable of all our support craft. We our fortunate to have the two that have been our core returning for this year after they preferred to end it after the 25th. Once again, if you have an inflatable o...

Boats Needed for the Crossing

The low water level on Mille Lacs has threatened the availability of some of the local boats that normally provide support for the Crossing. Center-consoles and cuddys in the 18-22 ft range provide both seaworthiness and trailer/launchability, but other options would be considered. GPS and VHF would...
