Re: BLADES, BLACK ICE & BIG SMILES

We went out to tonka for a couple hours with the skates and 3m trainer (Spring Park Bay). I've been waiting for a few years for the conditions to line up like that. Wind was strong for the most part and the 3m was plenty for me, even towed the wife for a few runs. Surface was smooth but maybe not as...

Re: Michigan's Upper Peninsula

Yeah, I'm a bit jealous you live so close. I had a great time living there especially with all the lake effects. Wife and I are taking a trip up this winter to porkies and whitecap. I ran across this video a while back of a desperate chap snowkiting early season near baraga. They get plenty of lake ...

Re: Michigan's Upper Peninsula

Nick, Looks like a nice season in the UP, eh? Recognize a lot of those spots in the Keweenaw but not sure about some. Anywhere to snowkite in your area?

Came accross this interesting photo and thought I'd share. Appears to be practical SUP in Thailand if I were to guess the locale. Wonder how long they've been using this form of transport?

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Was in Jamaica for a wedding June 12-18. Went kiting one day with Julia and Santino with kiteboardingjamaica.com. It was very windy everyday I was there but I was busy the rest of the days with the people from the wedding and other activities. But I'm glad I connected with Julia for one day who oper...

Re: Lake washington,Mille Lacs current conditions?

I kited Mille Lacs on the ice on Sunday. That is impressive  I was up there on the 9th and it was tough to find a spot to walk on. The wind did not cooperate but it was the closest cross country skiable terrain around. The pressure ridges had some open water too that was difficult to cross a...

Nice find! Think I may have to join the beach party up there this weekend since I won't be heading to SPI.

Re: Is anyone going out on the ice today?

I was looking around over the weekend. I couldn't find a spot on Waconia or Mtka that you could walk on. Using a ladder or a board may have been a possibility but there was no other people around so I decided not to risk it. Mille Lacs may be a better possibility but it's a long way to drive for a c...

Re: Friday 4/1 and Saturday 4/2

I am keeping an eye on the wind forecast and may take a drive to Waconia to view conditions today or tomorrow. I won't be able to ride Fri but maybe Sat or Sun. If I read the 10 day MRF correct, it appears the isobars are closer/wind stronger for Sunday. Sunday is actually Monday on the graphic due ...

Great Lakes Vid

If you havent seen this one it is worth a watch. Footy is a few years old but the music is good and waves section inspiring. Most of the footage is from MI; makes me want to spend more time there.

Re: Wednesday?

In my opinion, some of the best kiting on the ice is yet to come. Once the snow melts and water drains, it often creates a great soft surface that can hold an edge really well. Since the ice is so thick these conditions can last for a couple weeks. T-shirst, sun, and more daylight. Bittersweet as yo...

Re: X-ing Pictures

Diggin' that last photo with the effects Kelcher. The only thing that could have made it better was if my kite was in the shot :) I guess I'll have to ride more in the crowd next time. I was the guy ridin the orange and yellow TD1 by you on the last day.

Snowkite Soldier Video - Nathan

Thought everyone would appreciate the spectacular riding of our own Nathan Borer. Not only great riding but a nice video perspective and good music too. Way to go Nathan and thanks again for those early lessons years ago!

Re: Waconia Bound

Thanks Eric. Glad you were able to get out there too. We had a good time in the sun. The wind clocked a bit more WNW and built later which was nice. Yes, soft snow left me wanting for better wax. I'm optimistic that we'll have some more winter. March can be pretty interesting. Heading up to Lake of ...
