I won't get to sail til around 5ish so forcasts with wind lasting through the evening look attractive to me. I think I'll head to White Bear (Ramsey) because the forcast looks like it will last into the evening. Plus, I'll have the girlfriend along so she can sit on a nice beach.

I have a work function tomorrow that ends at 4 in Afton. How long would it take to get from Afton to Cannon? I have never sailed Cannon before. I may just take my chances with White Bear since I am familiar with it. I probalby won't get to White Bear til 5ish anyway so I expect that some boat traffi...

It can be difficult and certainly inconvenient to co-exist with power boats but it is something that every sailor has to deal with. WBL has some particular issues that make it more difficult - constantly varying wind speeds, a significant amount of boat traffic, and no rules for the direction of boa...

I only strapped on my formula board last night - I should have tossed on the short board too. I'm stuck sailing formula gear now and haven't decided which launch to use. I've never sailed Mahotmedi. I think I'll drive past Mahtomedi and if that doesn't look good I'll head up to Ramsey.

The steady breeze never came - although it kind of looks like it did this morning. I was expecting the temperature to drop more drastically with the rain. I'll keep my big mouth shut next time.

Looks like there is a bit of a steady breeze. I expect the breeze to stay around for a bit as it continues to cool off. I'm hoping to get to Bellaire shorty after 5.

How was Worthington?

I wasn't able to make it to Worthington because of work. Actually I didn't get out to sail at all during the weekend due to work.

I saw that Saturday had some strong winds. Did the strong winds come with storms or were they able to do some racing?

The bay is an incredible place to sail and kite. The conditions are challenging but the launch is about as easy as it gets.

Thursday night has kite races and Friday night are the windsurfing races.

Balancing your lines simply means positioning your lines so that when you hook in, you are able to use your body weight to counter the pull of the sail. If your lines are too far forward, you will have to pull with your backhand a lot to stay sheeted in and the sail may feel like it gets pull toward...

There are numerous factors that contribute to a properly set up rig. Having said that I would point out and suggest a few things. Considering you just got the 8.0, did you balance your lines before you sailed it? In other words, the lines on an 8.0 should balance farther back on your boom in compari...

Thanks for the info. My friend has a private launch I think I could use. Otherwise I could sail off of Excelsior. I know that boat traffic is pretty heavy on the weekend, but sailing is sailing! I just like to have as much knowledge as I can get before sailing in a new spot.

Thanks again.

Minnetonka

Does anyone regularly sail Minnetonka or has anyone ever sailed there? I have been considering Minnetonka as a sailing spot cause I have friend who takes a boat out regularly on Minnetonka and thought I might be able to squeeze in some sailing sessions in conjunction with some weekend boating.

if the winds are from the NW, then ramsey is offshore. Should be side shore at Bellaire and onshore at Mahtomedi. Might sail off of Bellaire since I've never sailed from Mahtomedi before.

Haven't been out yet this year. I think I'll make Saturday my first day. Better get up a little early to get my gear set up so I'm ready to hit the water when I get to White Bear. Northwest isn't a very good direction for White Bear. I've never sailed off of Mahtomedi, but i imagine it is the best s...

I called Olsen Park yesterday to make a reservation but was told that the park is already full for Memorial Day weekend.

I will continue to look for sites with lake access, but I might have to settle for a site that isn't windsurfing friendly.

Memorial Day Weekend Camping/Windsurfing

I am planning a camping trip for Memorial Day weekend with several friends. Are there any good camp grounds with lake access so I can also get a windsurfing fix along with a shot of nature? Driving a couple hours (3 or less) shouldn't be a problem since it is a long weekend. Are there good camp grou...
