Let's hope she holds up into the evening. Anyone know what's going on with the NOAA Exptl link, not working too well for me recently??

Re: I search girls for travelling to Dubai for free

Nice one kiteboy! I think Chummers is a little worried this guy will be swiping some of his girls from Calhoun.

I just found out its my girlfriends birthday Thur
Next time find out ahead of time and then when it gets windy on the day you can shift things around a little. For now you just better make the sacrifice!

Downhaul Question

How much downhaul & outhaul are you using on your Loft Lip sails? I think I am putting too much on at first and killing the power of the sail. Yesterday at the Wac I went out around 1pm on 4.7M Lip which was a little small for the conditions, but it was still pretty windy. But with a lot of down...

Re: Monday at Waconia

The T3 absolutely has the beefy 800lb front lines. Might be time to think about an upgrade cuz the T3 bridle is cleaner and the T3 bar and safety system is one of the best out there I've seen. You can trade in the ole T2 at Midwest and walk out with a sweet T3 in no time flat. I did that just before...

Re: Monday at Waconia

The Wac was pretty good today. I got there around 5 or so and rigged a 5.5M with a 96l board and had some pretty decent rides until curfew around 7. Made 2 very ugly jibes, blew the rest. Not much actual sailing accomplished over that time span since I am still spoiled from Padre & generally not...

Re: Richard Branson's way of kiting

Not too shabby, needs to pull the board shorts down over the white leggies though, maybe try one-handed next time, Rick. I think I read somewhere Branson's high school guidance counselor told him he would either end up a millionaire or in jail. At least they didn't tell him he would end up a nobody!

Re: Why do we ride the wind?

I feel it is my duty to give thanks to him every day for such things as the wind, the mountains, the waters, and so on
So it may be sinful not to ride? That's all the motivation I need!

The Wac is 100% ice free now, what a beautiful sight. Anyone have an update on Tonka? That's gotta be open too I would think.

Re: Waconia on the Brink

A few steps closer to the edge of the ledge. Almost half open this evening. And the remaining ice is noticeably darker than yesterday. Pretty cool to see Spring flexing a little muscle. Shouldn't be long now. Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Friday: Sunny, with a high near 53. Hopefully ...

Waconia on the Brink

It's about 30% open as of this afternoon, but the ice looks to be losing the battle. With some sunshine and a few 50's over the next couple of days my guess is it will be ready to go for the weekend.

Padre Island Rock Star

Well sort of, I stopped into XL Kites one day with a rookie question about a frayed pigtail, which was just the ends coming out and not a problem. Anyway Mark Doyle was there and took me over next door and the repair guy at B&S Kites took a lighter to it and now it looks brand new again. The lig...

Slingshot Center Safety Video

Not sure if this has been posted here before, but it's a nice short promo for the below the bar system. I hadn't used it much last summer, just pulled it for self landing. But in Padre I spent some time intentionally releasing and rebooting the system. It's pretty amazing how well it works. Nice! Wh...

Re: Transition to Water

Since Malmo is Mille Lacs it also offers cleaner wind and a better walk of shame experience (and less crowds & hazards) than the others. You will do some walking in the beginning, staying upwind on the water only comes with some practice. I did lessons with Air Padre and Tighe's crew when I was ...

Re: Lake Nokomis, almost ice free

Just to hopefully clarify, Noko is an alternative for city windsurfing, not liquid water kiting. It has more hazards than Calhoun and would not be a wise choice for summer kites. Nice to hear she's almost open for the windsurf bizness! I used to live just down the street and scored some pretty fun s...

Re: Wake Kite

Yes, a tower definitely would help, but I don't think it's necessary. I've seen guys get pretty big air without towers (not me, I go really small with or without tower!), it's just harder because you don't have the upward pull. I bet the kite could get you up there tower or not.

Re: Wake Kite

I think one of the selling points is you don’t necessarily need a super fancy towboat to get air with this contraption which appeals to me because I just have a 17.5’ runabout with a 4 banger. It sips gas so stingily it’s hard to use up a full tank and I used to tow it with a front wheel drive sedan...

Wake Kite

Has anyone seen one of these things in action? I just saw for the first time in an Overtons catalog for around $1000. Yet another thing to add to the quiver? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB5H8wxkvWg&feature=related http://www.wakekite.com/ I like the fact that it appears to make it easier to b...

Re: Cannon Monday?

Thanks for clarifying, Tom. I thought you had to be kidding when you said you rode little Normy, it’s a small yucky pond with all sorts of hazards so I didn’t think you would actually do it. Even if there were Katabatic winds! I learned this week the Saturday before while we were in Padre a young wi...
