Gonig to be in Hood River on Saturday

Visiting the brother-in-law that lives in Corvallis, OR this weekend (Thursday-Monday). I have talked the family into checking out Hood River one of the days. I am aiming for Saturday because the forecast is looking solid. Where do you recommend renting gear? Do any of the launch sites have rentals ...

Windy Report Today??? June 19, 2010

Looks like ti might be windier than the 10 mph forecast... Anybody got a visual on WBL, Calhoun, or other local spots?

Re: Walleye Regatta this Weekend - See WIndsurfing History...

I'm headed to Fond du Lac for the Walleye Regatta. The Walleye Regatta is always a great event. You are guaranteed to race a lot and also learn a lot. There is usually a pretty good turn out - it would be great to see the Minnesota and Iowa windsurfers and kiters show up.

Re: Calhoun

Calhoun was not as good as other spots. I got out about 3 pm, and it was 15-30 with puffs/lulls all over the lake. I was able to plane consistently for about an hour or hour and a half (on a 6.2 and 151L board). Then some rain blew through and it was probably 10-20 with puffs coming through much les...

Re: Calhoun

Sorry for the confusion. I'm one of the few windsurfers who hasn't converted to kiting. I just can't justify owning more gear!

Calhoun

I don't usually ride Calhoun but I'm supposed to meet my wife downtown tonight. Are there any spots (coffee shop or whatever) that has free wireless access so I can work until I get the itch and want to rig up?

How fast does the lot fill up?

Re: Cannon this afternoon. . .

I'm going to be there this afternoon. Not sure what time. In a friendly speed competition with my brothers, so I'm going to be the idiot out there on something big.

Re: Found Windsurf Ujoint, sailbag RS4@ Waconia Sun May 31, 2009

I was sailing a 7.2 RS4 that day, but I don't have an original bag. I use an old IMCO 7.4 bag for mine (purple). I'm pretty sure I didn't leave it. I was in a hurry though and haven't looked at my gear since then. I'll check tonight to see if I'm missing anything. What did the universal look like? D...

Re: Worthington Economic Stimulus Package...

I'm kicking myself for not heading down! It was a busy weekend for me and I spent a lot of "points" heading down on the Big Wednesday. I did manage to get out to Cannon Lake late in the afternoon for some runs. I was on my 7.2 RS4 and energy, but it was spotty so I was spending some time s...

Canon Tomorrow?

Is anyone sailing Cannon tomorrow? I've never sailed there before but think I'll give it a go. I'm in Eagan so it is about 35 minutes to WBL, and about 45 to Cannon. Looks like the southerly wind should be decent at Cannon. I'll either sail formula gear or my new (to me) 140L board. Should I launch ...

Re: 2009 Midwest Speed Quest Update.....

I think we can still push for faster 10 seconds runs. Each year it looks like it has gone up slightly. The chase to go faster and faster is part of the fun/challenge. You always feel like you can go faster. Just like seeking the "ultimate ride" on a wave. Having said that, I don't know if ...

Re: 2009 Midwest Speed Quest Update.....

Thanks for the offer, but I think 30 is a bit small for me. I have some other needs to take care of before getting some fins as well (I broke my slalom boom at the dam jam so that is the number one priority now).

Re: 2009 Midwest Speed Quest Update.....

I did my runs on a sputnik 265 and 13.75" rainbow fin from 1995. Wish I could have gotten on the vector fins, but the sputnik is a powerbox and the only powerbox vector fin was a 38 cm kind of swept thing. Ardy said he clocked a 31 knot 10 second run on Winnebago last wednesday. Apparently, mo'...

I'm guessing the reduction in glare off of the water from the polarized glasses is what prevented you from seeing the texture of the water. Without the reflections on the surface, it is much more difficult to see the texture of the water.

Padre Island March 15-22

Who else will be there?

I will be there for a week (see subject title) with my brothers (Arden and Andrew) and my dad (Wayne). We will be sailing at The Bird. Sunday should be our first day of sailing and the forecast is looking good.
