I was too whipped yesterday to join Judd and Diane for another day on Superior. If we could all sail as smooth and relaxed as Judd maybe we wouldn't have to pay the price. After getting pounded in the shore break on the windsurfer I went back to kiting and had a great time on Anna and Eric's 7M Bula...

Nancy -- click the help tab on the windguru page and go to forecast models for an explanation of differences. In summary it sounds like the NAM are more accurate sort term.

There's a minimal breeze blowing on the south end of Mille Lacs. It doesn't look kiteable yet but experimental looks promising for later today.

We're OK. Kathy and I went to the twins game last night and crossed the bridge shortly before it collapsed. Fortunately we were meeting my family early to grab a bite to eat on the plaza. Sobering.

Ron and Shane at Carlsona confirmed a go for a bonfire and camping on the beach or slope behind the restaurant for Saturday night. They will also try to free up the screened porch for us after 8:00. So I did not book the Malmo
Community center.

I talked to Shane at Carlsona about Sat night. We're welcome to have a bonfire and gather outside or on the beach. He didn't think noise would be an issue until 1-2 am. He also volunteered that he thought we could put some tents on the bank or beach. He'll talk to Ron to be sure and get back to me. ...

I've called resorts up and down the east and north shores and haven't found any good options for camping and a bonfire. Several have campsites but can't accomodate a group. The Why Not Park (north of Malmo) would work but they already have a large group for that weekend. Her are two options: Malmo C...

Since Steve asked so nicely --- I'll be glad to talk to Carlsona and see if we can get the screen porch for Sat night. I'll also see if we can find a different locale for camping and a bonfire close to the north shore.

Hi Mike Some dead walleye are washing into Reddy but lnot the massive kill off of whitefish that you see after prolonged hot spells. Still some lake flies around that land on your legs while standing on the beach but the no recent large hatches. There are some dead flies floating along the shore. De...

You could also try to post an add in the local weekly paper -- the Mille Lacs Messenger. The dragging bar may also steer the kite in an unexpected direction. On a SW wind I once had a drifting kite lost at Malmo end up close to Reddy. Hope It shows up.

Kevin O and I enjoyed 4.7/5.2 poleboarding at Father Hennepin all afternoon. The poor bloke who swamped and grounded his boat on the beach did not.

Hi Nancy --- pain in front and inside over the joint sounds more like biceps tendinitis rather than rotator cuff injury but it's difficult to tell without poking around to see where it hurts and putting your shoulder through different planes of motion with and without stress. From the position you d...

The winds at Duluth are tempting but freezing sleet and /or drizzle are not. I'm in St Paul and hope to enjoy the warm waters of WBL. Garrison works well on ESE. Another launch to consider for kiting is the Rum river outlet just south of the casino. It's shallow out a long ways and a fin catcher for...

I tried unhooking, dropping the bar and pulling in the leading edge line hoping to avoid the tangle around the legs. Avoided the tangle, then looked around and wondered where my sunken bar was. Now I stay hooked in but walk to the side and slightly upwind to avoid the lines. That's easy in the shall...

Malmo works on west wind -- it will be onshore. Yesterday the ice was breaking up but still a lot of slush. It's far enough out and south at Malmo that even with a west wind it should stay ice free. Ice should be totally off the lake today or tomorrow. NOAA doesn't look very promising for wind this ...
