Cannon goes boom again

Heard yesterday was big, today should be bigger. If you like high-wind windsurfing or kiting, sneak out of work early and come on down!

Cannon is firing (again)!

The wind just came up down here: looks good for S 25-35 this afternoon. If you are on the water late in the day keep your eyes on the sky. There could be some major storm activity as the low approaches and deepens.

Re: Roll call...

Randy, it was great to see you yesterday and share the water as many times before. I had hoped to join for you for the morning session but didn't get there till about 1:00 p.m. or so. The wind had clocked SW, the sun was out, and I got in yet another hour of full on 4.7m this weekend. The body aches...

Great pic, Pete! Byllesby was awesome, too, with the "magic carpet" fully rolled out.

Re: My Wife Wrote a Dirtbag Diary!

Very nice! Brings back many good memories. Some years ago, between the end of grad school and beginning of real work, mortgages and parenthood, my wife and I had a few month-long dirt bag adventures in a rusty old Izuzu Trooper full of climbing, surf and ski gear. One of our favorites was the night ...

Re: Cannon Saturday

Dave, missed you today. I had a rocking 11m session from 1:30-3:00 at Cannon before my body died. What an incredible four warm and windy days-in-a-row in October! Hope you got some.

Re: Cannon Saturday

The point in the NE corner, which is technically a thin strip of land that's within the high-water mark of the lake (and therefore not owned by anyone).

Re: Cannon Saturday

On south winds, the shadow of the point on the east side works great for safe-and-easy self launches and landings. The water off the point is waist-deep 50m from shore. Launching from the NW corner is doable, too, though the water gets deep quickly and the wind can be gusty coming over the trees. I ...

Re: Pepin Friday?

Prof. W, with an injured back does this mean your jump heights will be decreased from 40' to 30', with hang time limited to 6 rather than 8 seconds? You might have to take it easy and not jump over the lowly windsurfers. Heal up! Prof. S

Re: Pepin Friday?

Scott and I rode Cannon yesterday afternoon with great southerlies, fall colors and fully lit 11m. Heading back today for more kiting, stronger winds. And then, hopefully, Friday, even stronger winds and back to Cannon for . . . windsurfing!!!

You should come down Z if it goes off.

Re: BRIDGE OF THE GODS 2011: The Groms

Thanks for posting--just watched with my 12 year-old daughter! She doesn't ride yet but is a good wakeboarder and is learning to fly the trainer. In the coming years maybe she'll put it together. Kids love to watch other kids and the groms are inspirational (they kick my butt).

Ocean Rodeo Mako?!

I have heard so many good things about these boards, especially their abilities in gnarly Gorge chop and mushy Great Lakes shore breaks. Anybody have a review to share? Thanks,

Re: Wednesday recap...

Hey slopecat, I can relate, too. Once, after a particularly humbling self-rescue when I was starting out, my best bud Scott Chapman (who was at the time a couple of years ahead of me in kiting), encouraged me by reminding me that, hey, I had just perfected my self-rescue technique! He was right, of ...

epic flat water!

Majority of summer winds here on northern Lake Michigan are SW-NW with the occasional E that is usually wet. For years I've had my eye on pioneering some flat water in the lee of a narrow and sandy point that only sets up in NE wind. NE almost never happens here, especially in summer. Yesterday, aft...

I rode a 17m Zephyr in Thailand last fall and rode all day in light breezes on glassy water without a whitecap in sight. Love the simplicity.
