Re: playtime at Reddy

I'll bring the camera! If anybody wants to ride up with me, I'm planning on heading out around 9am from the Crystal area. I've got room for 1 rider with a couple kites and a board or two. 42mpg in the TDi, that's about $25 round trip, ($12 a piece). Planning on returning saturday night after the win...

Re: The art of riding upwind

Ride as much on a board as you can. Wakeboarding, wake skating, snowboarding, riding in deep powder, regular, switch, fakie, etc. Anything you can do to get more proficient and adept at sliding sideways is key. There are more and less efficient ways to slide (or plow) through the water and it all va...

Re: Kiter violates Calhoun ban - lands on floating dock

Tighe, Just a suggestion here. The Calhoun description on the site does mention the ban, but you actually have to read to notice it. Make it idiot proof and place it in big bold red letters right at the top, under the lake map before the text. It'd be pretty hard to miss. Granted most people who wou...

Re: Yeah!!!!!!!

Friday sure was crazy! Launching in wind like that, on-shore, was pretty intimidating at first, but once I got out it was ON! Much different from the nukin' first day we had in Padre this spring though. 30mph down there feels alot different than it does up here with all the gusts and holes and what-...

Re: builders: fiberglass fabric source?

two 6mm boards together should be plenty thick so you don't have to glass it. Just put a layer of epoxy or varnish or poly so the water doesn't soak it. That was my original plan, but then I got a little skeptical. Thanks for the heads up, maybe I will just finish it and leave out the glass on this...

Re: builders: fiberglass fabric source?

awesome, thanks guys. It's nothing special, just a lighter wind board. 150 x 44-45, haven't decided on a final shape yet. $600-$800 for a Spleene or similar is ridiculous. Kiteboards in general are stupid-expensive in my opinion. Especially compared to wakeboard prices. So far I've got two pieces of...

builders: fiberglass fabric source?

Any board builders out there?

I've got my ply laminated and rockered. I'm ready for a layer or so of glass to reinforce it a little. Where do you get fiberglass fabric locally? NW Canoe in ST.P? Any place else?

Re: Pelican Today

Bryce,

Hey where do you launch from on Pelican in the summer with the prevailing SW-S-SE winds? My buddy Bjorn has a cabin across the street on Horseshoe and we'll likely be popping over to Pelican on the weekends when the wind is up if there is a good spot to ride/launch out of.

Stay warm,
Pete

Re: Padre delivers the goods

Thanks for organizing such a great trip Tighe! It was awesome to hang with so many fun people and ride everyday. Nothing like hitting it first day on a 9m in 30mph+ and then riding 10 days straight after that.

Hope to see all of you out on the water this summer!

Travel Bag Advice

Yo,

I need a travel bag for Padre this April. It's gotta fit 2 kites, bar, 136cm board, harness, wetsuit, & impact vest. Any advice on particular models that'll get me through the airport hassle free?

Thanks in advance,
-PK

One is enough. Pull the screw out after you launch and re-anchor before you land. Bang the ice out and put the cap on, that way it'll work later when you need it. Be sure to stow it where you can't impale yourself on it. If you clip it to your harness, make sure it won't interfere with normal operat...

I haven't been out to the island yet. Is there an access that a car can make it up and down right now? I can get out around 4pm.

Best spot for Mon or Tues?

Monday (2/25) and Tuesday are looking good. Where's the best snow? Where are the cool kids hangin? I'm tired of riding Medicine by myself, and the snow coverage there is getting patchy. Any spots in better shape or is it just crappy all around right now?

Awsome information guys, thanks. I'll definately check out EAS. I ride LF wakeboards, so I'd imagine their kiteboards are of similar quality. I'm comfortable with that brand.

What's this Padre in April business? Point me to the information.

Board recommendations

Looking for advice on a board for the water. I've got a 13m Waroo lined up for this summer. That'll likely be my only kite for the season. This will be my first season on the water. I've got the snow thing pretty much dialed and I've also got 14years of wakeboarding experience. 6'-0", 165lb. Wh...
