Great Session at Malmo Yesterday

I finally got on the water yesterday for the first time. Thanks to Peter for the lesson. The volume of Lake Mille Lacs may be down a bit today since half of it is in my head, but I had a great time. Some good rides and I was even able to get up-wind some at the end of the day. Can't wait for more ti...

Re: Tuesday Forecast?

Thanks, Tighe. It looked like there might have been potential for late afternoon. But that's a bit of a gamble with the long drive involved. I think I'll wait for a more promising day.

Tuesday Forecast?

Any thoughts on tomorrow? I'm ready to take some of my newly acquired skills from the winter to the water and practice body dragging and maybe get on a board if all goes well. Wind looks like it might be reasonable. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Medicine Lake?

How is Medicine Lake for newbs? I started kiting this winter and am anxious to get in the water. I saw the post that Medicine Lake may be a good option for today.
Thanks!

Re: Water Temps

Calhoun wasn't bad yesterday. I was in the water a bit, too, when the wind kicked up while still on my 8.5. I didn't have gloves on and my hands were fine.

Re: Airline Bag Fees

I was recently checking out US Air's baggage policy and they don't say anything specific about kites, but "water ski" equipment, golf clubs, and boogie boards count as a regular checked bag. I also found this link there about shipping sports equipment: "Try Sports Express today and ge...

First Board Recommendations?

Hi, I'm looking for my fist kite board and was wondering what size to start with. I'm about 5'9 170lbs. I have good snowboarding and wakeboarding experience. I've heard kite boards are getting shorter and wider. I want something that I can learn on, but don't want to get bored with it too quickly. I...

Awesome. Thanks for the link. I saw the map here, but it wasn't clear to me where you actually head out onto the ice.

Kite Island Tomorrow?

I have never been to Kite Island and was thinking about checking it out tomorrow. Do you all think tomorrow would be good there? I'm also not quite sure how to get there. Any tips? I assume it is still safe to drive on Minnetonka. If Kite island doesn't sound good are there any other suggestions? I'...

Is anyone seeing anything promising for the next few days? The wind forecasts I'm seeing don't look great.

Re: What Size Kite to Start With?

I was wondering if starting with a smaller kite would be a better idea. I am a pretty athletic person. I have been snowboarding and windsurfing for over 20 years and pretty much taught myself both. I haven't tried kiting yet and a lesson would be ideal, but they look pretty expensive here, so I may ...

What Size Kite to Start With?

Hey all, After years of contemplation, I am finally thinking about buying my first kite. Winter seems like a good time to give it a go since my windsurfing gear is collecting dust and won't get jealous. I weigh about 165 (maybe 170 with my "winter coat") and I will probably be riding on Ca...

Re: The Wac

I, too, can relate to what a lot of others are saying. For me, my latest challenge was going out on my Carve 111 that I bought at the end of last summer. This weekend was the first two days I've had on it. It was a whole new challenge. It took a lot more work to stabilize in the lulls, but once it g...

Good point, Bill. I saw the movie as well, but didn't pick up on the fact that there weren't many females. In hindsight you are definitely correct. That's too bad since there are so many talented female skiers and riders out there. An e-mail to the man himself might not be a bad idea. He has feature...

Thanks everyone. The DH tool has been located. Someone even called with a different one they found last year and offered it to me. What a great WS community we live in! It's not exactly the most expensive piece of equipment, but it's nice not to have to replace it none the less. Thanks to everyone t...

Lost Downhaul Tool at Calhoun. Found!!!

I'm not sure when exactly, but I think I left my downhaul tool at Calhoun a month or two ago. I now have a winch, so I didn't notice it right away. It's one of the two-hand cleat style tools. If you found it and believe in karma, I'd love to get it back. There might even be some beer in it for you! ...

Thanks Steve and everyone else that showed up last night. We had a good time and gave Josh a little taste of what the scene is like here. I enjoyed meeting more of the local sailors here as well. I've only been back here for a little over a year and it's great to get to know more of you all. See you...

Windsurfing Social Gathering This Afternoon

Hi everyone, I posted last week that Josh Sampiero, one of the editors from Windsurfing Magazine, was coming to town. He will be here today and would just like to meet a bunch of people from the local scene to talk about what it's like sailing in these parts. It's not looking good for wind this afte...

Windsurfing Mag is coming to town June 19-20

Hey everyone. I'm not sure if many of you visit rec.windsurfing, but Sampiero, the managing editor from Windsurfing Mag is driving from Florida to Hood River and stopping here on his way. There hasn't been any response from people here yet. We should pump him up on coming here. I think it's pretty c...
