winds have shifted to far to the east, too much rain.

I'm going to Clear Lake for a warm session. :D

Re: New in Minneapolis

Carl,

Welcome!

With tomorrow's winds you'll likely find some kiters at Ramsey Beach of White Bear Lake tomorrow. It looks even nicer at Reddy Creek beach for those who can make the drive to Mille Lacs.

Rentals? That's pretty sketchy around here.

Re: NOAA Experimental

I gave Mike K a one-click solution for the Wind page. He said he is going to add it when he does his next round of LAKAWA site updates.

Until then: http://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov/hrrrconus/, etc.

Re: Duluth Aug. 9

Great pictures Dean, especially since I'm in some of them :D. Seriously, these are sweet. Thanks! The day was such a treat. It was amazingly warm. Air temps were mid 60s. The water was warmer than that. It really felt like it the water was close to 70. I kited in a 3-2. It was easier than usual to g...

Re: NOAA Experimental

Well, I see the 'runtime' parameter is a problem in the link I posted. Aside from some javascripting magic, a reliable way to use the new Experimental is to go to: http://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov/hrrrconus/ On this page you will see the top level choices are 'Model' - choose "HRRR primary" (t...

NOAA Experimental

NOAA has move their Rapid Update forecast (LAKAWA Wind Page "NOAA Exptl") to a new page (the old one still displays, but is mostly broke). The new page is: http://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov/hrrrconus/displayMap.cgi?keys=hrrr:&runtime=2012072410&plot_type=allwind_t210m&fcst=00&ti...

Re: DRAG (Lake Washington) Incident

  I'm trying to envision this... walking through the narrow opening (maybe 20 feet between the dock and picnic shelter?) while flying a kite. On one side is a row of trees at the shoreline, a small roofed set of picnic tables, and a few larger trees with the volleyball area before a gr...

Re: Kiting around others on the lake

Jim... Yes, Minnesota sucks!! I too wish we had the freedom of the wide beaches and smooth winds we enjoy at SPI, Florida, CA - actually almost anywhere but here it seems. I wish it were different too - and I'm a native. I wish a lot of things. Sorry your friends were put off by the locals assuming ...

Re: Dakine Nitrous harness for kiting?

Seat Harness: I got Nitrous Shorts a few years ago. Loved them because I can move and kite toe-side so much easier than I was able to in my Dakine Fusion seat harness. I only use the Fusion harness in the winter now. Yes... basically no back support and the waist band can wear on your skin so a rash...

Re: outside saftey lines

Below the bar safety attachments started to replace the old steering line attachment you are talking about back in 2005 or 2006. I don't think anyone makes a bar anymore that you cannot 'spin' with the leash attached. Most bars still provide 'Oh Shit' grab loops on the steering lines as a back-up sa...

Re: 17m Turbine Tighe

We've had a wonderful spring. I've only used my big kite twice (16M Spitfire). It's pretty cool that so many companies are really going after the challenges of the light wind kiting. I like what I see in the Zephyr and Turbine. Each have their advantages. I'm looking forward to seeing Mike's 17M Bes...

My Ramsey Swim

My adventure yesterday (5/22) at Ramsey Beach… It was a beautiful day. I started Kiting from Ramsey Beach intending to tack up to the 'Gap' where the wind is stronger and waves are more fun as they come on to the shallows between the points where you exit Ramsey Bay and enter the main body of the la...

Wallet at Ramsey?

Found it!!!! Set it on top of my car while putting stuff away   . It fell on Hwy 96.

A guy (or an angel) picked it up and phoned me. Wallet is now back in my pocket :D
