Re: Closed Foil Questions
I "learned" to kite on a closed-cell foil, a kite much better adapted for land or snow riding than water. Foils take a beating quite easily in the water, because after they start filling with water, they are very heavy, the seams break, they are hard to drain, and probably aren't good flot...

Re: is it too cold
well, do what you will, I guess. If you're at wildwood with friends you can almost afford to go naked. But at Bellaire alone, that would be really dangerous.
Glad you had fun DaveZ. Y'allz hardcore! see you out probably this winter.

Re: Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
you guys cut it out. I just posted to a newer kiter the most dire warnings about going out in this kind of cold. Don't cut into my credibility any more than you need to, there is not a whole lot of it left.

Re: is it too cold
don't go. We don't need deaths on our local kite scene. Your rigging, hands, feet will freeze in the first five minutes. When the air temp is below 35, you won't enjoy it and you'll endanger your life, especially if you go to bellaire due to the very long fetch downwind.
Peace.
Peace.

Re: Tomorrow?
Let me give you my cautionary statement about bellaire: The downwind fetch (in case you break down while out in the middle after launching from bellaire) is approximately 1.5 miles! You could be out in that water for several hours if you have a breakdown. Whereas, at wildwood, the longest float in i...

Re: End of Season Get Together
you know what would be fun is to bring along the season's best posts from Lakawa to be read aloud.
Maybe everybody should print one out, and bring them and put them in a pile to be read randomly, and perhaps anonymously.

Debbie-- I have one addition to your "Ghetto Dry Suit" concept. Mills Fleet farms sells 3mm neoprene gloves designed for fishing. $8. But be aware, to shop there you have to prove you're going to vote for John Mccain. btw seamonkey: "leder hosen" means "leather pants" i...

Thanks Tighe. Hope the knee comes back online soon.
I wasn't blessed with the best knees either. and now I'm thinking, if I had it to choose, I would have taken stronger knees instead of good looks.

Re: Neverending quest for gear...
Go with a larger board. I've seen big handmade boards on ebay for $100.
one thing about the 07 bularoos is they are very grunty, but they get that by virtue of sitting further back in the window. what this means is it's a little harder to stay upwind with them.

Re: Sunday's looking big!
I suggest we all sit down tonight, set some patchouli or sandalwood a burnin, put on some light mood music (captain beefheart is one option) sit down in front of a picture of the buddha/Bob Marley/<your favorite deity>, get relaxed, close our eyes, and meditate on actualizing the following scenario:...

Re: Waconia-Sunday's report and found items
Jim, thanks for the roundup of Sunday's uneven but usable wind. It is a rare treat to have a hot, windy day in MN. I believe you have found my fleece with the huge leatherman's tool in it. Can you believe it--a leatherman's with a locking blade. I've had that fleece since 2003 and as such it's becom...
