ideal conditions

minnetonka - 1/14/06 -- Can I beg to offer my opinion on ideal conditions? This Saturday on Minnetonka, with a good 8-10 mph wind, steady, lake covered by intermittent swaths of crusty snow, the 3m kite hauling me along, pass after pass, the late afternoon sun streaming down in clean shafts, like th...

minneapolisguy looking for rooming possibilities at Kite Jam

Hi. Before I go and book a room, checking to see if anybody wants to go in on a room, or has an open spot to stay over maybe Friday and/or Saturday evening in Brainerd. Please respond quick because things will be filling up fast.

what up 1/10/06 - 15mph from the South

I'm thinking Calhoun first and then if I get inspired Smith Bay on Minnetonka. You'll see my baby 3m kite. Finally got decent skis.

Minnetonka, today 1/8/2006

I will be going to Smith Bay on Lake Minnetonka shortly. Will be there by noon. Come join if able. Winds appear to be 8mph according to accuweather.com, but outside my apartment in minneapolis, gusting to higher than that. Smith Bay is on the North side of Lake minnetonka and should work well using ...

Smith Bay

Smith Bay. It is just north of Minnetonka Beach, Crystal Bay is to the west, Browns Bay is to the east. There is a small parking spot on Shoreline drive on Smith Bay that a kiter can use to access. Smith Bay is nice because it lets you onto the big open area of Minnetonka. BTW, surface conditions we...

Tonka--

I encourage you to come out to the Tonk because the majority of the lake was covered in nice, soft snow. Albeit, there is a layer of slush below that, most of the time you're never actually in slush. But I felt 100% safe, and had no trouble with the surface. There were also two guys out there doing ...

Minnetonka - 12/2/06

Took the vacation day to the Tonk. This was a day blessed by God for me to cruise across a massive frozen cataract of ice and snow. Launched from Smith bay. Path veered E/ESE all the way across this massive bastard. Pure straightline winds. 3m Samurai was all it took! Found other kiters, 2:30 pm. In...

ozone demo - calhoun Sunday 12/1/2006

Calhoun ozone Demo: Many kiters in force on calhoun. Gawker stare evident on pedestrian path surrounding the lake. Many great kiters doing their best. Air was had by the elite few. I spent the afternoon wrestling with my Samurai. After the first hour I wanted to commit seppuku, but by kite finally c...
