Re: cold water riding gear

For my hands one key thing is the hot water dunk times 2. I'm still trying to make it work with neoprene gloves, mitts would be better but I don't own a pair yet and like to wear gloves if I can. I find my hands get cold very quickly at first (especially my index fingers go numb), but if I go in and...

Re: Are you Reddy?????

Reddy would be sweet, got to stay local though so I will be checking out Waconia after lunch. Looks like a little wind might be happening to the west.

Re: anyone else watching that clearing line?

Thanks Professor! I launched from Arcola and got in a decent sesh. I was able to work upwind and sail into Browns Bay for a little bit, but unfortunately my timing wasn’t the best and the wind got better just as I had to head home for dinner. :x Next time I will definitely try to get over to Wayzata...

Re: anyone else watching that clearing line?

The sun is starting to break through a little out west in Chanhassen here and the wind is a pretty solid 15-18mph ESE in Hutch. Not sure if I'll be able to grab a sesh or not but it looks pretty good. I might try to windsurf this direction on Minnetonka from Wakota Park in Tonka Bay. It has a nice l...

Re: Washington vs Waconia

Washington is quite a bit farther west so it may be getting different wind than Waconia. Call the Litchfield Airport to see what’s up at Wash and Glencoe or Hutchinson to see what’s about to happen at Wac. I suspect Washington typically gets a little better wind but then again I’m a Waconia guy and ...

Re: Knives

I'm having visions of kiters getting ready to ride like a scene from an action movie where the tough guy/gal checks their guns, knives,C4 etc looking determined and damned sexy. Next time it gets really crowded and people are fighting over rigging space it could break down into gang warfare with ki...

Except of course that is was cold and rainy! Oh well, no matter, the wind was good and that’s all t...

Re: Waconia Wind&Wave this year?

Voltaire is gonna be at the Crossing this year? Man this community is getting way too intellectual for me! Well as long as someone shows up representin the letter V, I'm good either way. Cool! I just sent in my check to Fleet 8. This Friday is the last day for discount $65 registration. Monday 9/22 ...

Re: Waconia Wind&Wave this year?

My only windsurf racing experience consists of 2 unsuccessful Crossings and I’ve never even been on a racing longboard. That said, it looks like a pretty cool thing. Even in conditions not even close to suitable for planing on windsurf gear or even getting rides on a big kite/board combo, the racing...

Re: Waconia Wind&Wave this year?

I stopped out yesterday afternoon to say hi and see what was up. They were racing just fine, albeit going a little slower than they would like! Michael Fox is the contact person for events like this one and the Crossing. Contact Fleet-8@juno.com for the Notice of Race that will provide more info and...

Re: What Is Your Preferred Source For Wind Forecasts?

Mostly I just watch for posts by Tighe Belden, Scott Chapman, Brian Smith and others who seem to know how to read forecasts. It depends on where you want to go, for example Stroh looks to be a good source for Duluth this summer. Jerry S is often the man out west. Put some airport numbers into your c...

Coincidentally, I got an email from Capt Jeff Hoxtell from S Padre today asking to check out a new instructional website he and some others put together and he wrote up the repair stuff himself...

Re: Good Lake Swimmers itch & ear Info

I wear booties for kiting because I usually have to walk a lot, sometimes really far! For windsurfing though, booties start to hurt my toes after while in the footstraps so I don’t wear them unless it’s cold or a sketchy unfamiliar launch. At Waconia I use a “shuffle step” walking my gear out which ...

Re: Can you Windsurf on Lake Minnetonka or the St. Croix River

Fred, for future reference I would drive to Waconia. I live 5 minutes from Tonka, but I always choose Waconia which is a little over 15 minutes for me. If you know Tonka really well it might be worth it but for the unfamiliar Waconia is a lot easier and better wind. Tonka rules in the winter... that...

There was some wind at the Wac yesterday afternoon... http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u72/mark5767/wind08_06_08.gif Not great because it was crazy gusty, but just enough to knock the chip off my shoulder about having to go on a very short notice East coast business trip last week. The forecasts d...

Laird Hamilton, Matt Damon, Dean Rizer

Further bolstering the sport, surf stars such as Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama have embraced SUP. ESPN recently reported that World Cup skier Julia Mancuso cross-trains standing up on a surfboard. Hollywood types including Matt Damon , Jennifer Garner and Pierce Brosnan have been caught on camera ...

Since this is not a good summer for me for traveling any distance from home, my technique has been to show up at Waconia and hope for the best since it's only 15 mins away. I will prolly do this again this afternoon since I was informed yesterday I will be in Maryland next week on business. The whol...

Got off the phone with our friends in Padre earlier this evening. Well at least the husband. His wife is a nurse and rode out the storm at the hospital in Brownsville. They just recently opened the Queen Isabella bridge back up so people can access the island again. They own two places on the island...

Re: Thursday Lake Mille Lacs

Scott got there early and scored. I hit the Wackwater around 5:30p and got around 40 mins of light wind action in. Had to be home by 7p which was a good thing cuz the wind cut off right around 6:30p. Sketchy cuz there was a dead zone to get thru to get to the wind out in the middle of the lake. On a...
