Chicky, Have you tried contacting the editors of the Star Tribune. This is the exact kind of issue that they have done a very good job of bringing to the public's attention over the past years. The Star Trib is generally in favor of preserving parklands. You might try contacting them if you haven't ...

Experiencing the Gorge
Well, I have finally had my trip to the holy land of windsurfing. On July 28, I took off with Greg Heymans and Sid (no last name needed here – there’s only one Sid) and landed in Portland a few hours later. Our trip was uneventful as we pulled into Hood River around 1:00 a.m. west coast time. As we ...

Madeline Island
With total disregard for the wind forecast last week, I took my gear with me to Madeline Island this past weekend and got skunked. The winds basically were right in line with all the forecasts - light. The place I stayed was on a great stretch of beach with a sandbar about 150 yards out from the bea...

Heading to the Gorge July 28th for 4 days. What kind of swimwear do I need to bring? Shorty, full wetsuit?

Madeline Island
Anyone have any info on windsurfing at Madeline Island? I'm heading up there for a long weekend July 23rd and I'm wondering what the conditions might be like. I presume I'll need my dry suit. Anyone out there ever sailed the Archipelago? Good places to launch, etc.

Hey Eric, I have sailed, but not kited, on Gull. A really nice spot is right along highway 371, a few miles south of Nisswa. There is a place where 371 is very close to the lake, and very close to North Long Lake on the east side of the road. Any way, bring up Nisswa on mapquest, and you will see wh...

Reusse on Worthington
Who caught this in Reusse's column today in the Strib? WORTHINGTON, the bustling burg on the Minnesota prairie, again is out to prove itself a reliably windy location with a windsurfing regatta Friday through Sunday on Lake Okabena. A year ago, the U.S. National Championships were held the second we...

I almost forgot
I have had a very busy last three-fourths of a year. Starting on September 1 of last year, work has been very hectic, and of course, lots of kids' sports, etc. So, I have not sailed since before Sept. 1. Well, actually I had a session in Jamestown, ND the day before Memorial Day - it was 55 and rain...

I'm writing this year off
I'm just gonna say it. My timing this year absolutely sucks. Another day where I hit the water just as the wind began to drop off. Since I'm usually pressed for time, with work and family commitments constantly squeezing me, I generally don't re-rig. Today I schlogged for 15-20 minutes and cam...

KO, I'm going to be in Brainerd this weekend for a boys' weekend. Based on yesterday's forecast, I wasn't going to bring my gear. Now I will. I haven't had a decent session since June. New client, busy as hell. Couldn't sail yesterday and it about killed me. I'll probably hit Gull on Friday. There's...

Me, too in Sconny!
Tighe, I was at my folks' place in Shawano, which is just about an hour northwest of Appleton. I heard the rustling of the trees early on Sunday morning, as well, and I headed out for a session on Shawano Lake. The wind was SW, which is side-on for the launch at the end of the road (which was recent...

Minnesota Score
Hey sailors, Through my kid's sports, I have met the editors/publishers of the Minnesota Score, a new magazine dedicated solely to Minnesota sports. http://www.minnesotascore.com/ I am trying to talk them into doing an article on windsurfing/kiting in Minnesota. I just ordered a subscription to thei...

if I didn't have to work. I'd be headed to Spirit right now. It looks like it's gonna rock down there all day and into tonight. Wow. Did anyone see the color in western Nebraska on Experimental? I don't ever remember seeing that before. Yikes!!
