Tighe, I wish you had deleted that earlier. It took me an hour to read the whole dam thing.

Boat traffic is never a problem on OT. Very big lake (14,000 acres) lots of space.

Re: Does north wind work at Ottertail

Ottertail is awesome, almost always windy. Call me or Ed Jansen, we have launch areas covered for any wind direction. My cell is 651-357-3800. I am there every weekend.

Re: winter warm spots

Try St. Martin. There are quite a few people that kite up on the French side on Orient Beach which is probably the nicest (although somewhat commercialized) beach on the island. There is a kiteboarding/windsurfing shop right on the beach and they give lessons, too. But they don't speak English very ...

Jeff, Like Ed said, I am almost always up there, and the lake is awesome. Call me at 651-357-3800 whenever conditions look good and you want to go. If I am available and it works out, we can do it.

Re: Very frustrating

Is it unusual that an 8m Access would fall out of the sky (or backwind ? ) on a day where the wind is 15 to 20 mph,but gusting? Before a gust comes does the wind speed normally die down a lot? or just a little?

That is terrible---sounds like a lot of hospital time. Hope you recover fast. Which is more dangerous--kiting or downhill skiing? I still say skiing. Stay positive, you will get better.

Re: A sobering story

Thanks, Bob, sorry I brought back bad memories for you. It sounds like you had a lot more pain than I did. I have a halo screwed into my head, but I am up and able to walk around and step over the dog. I was just plain lucky, could have died right there or become a quadriplegic. Now I am just inconv...

Re: A sobering story

Thanks all you guys for your concern. Ed you described it well, thank you. I never considered the 8 m Access to be all that powerful of a kite. I've had it out in big,big winds many times before with no problems. Wish I had a better memory of the exact events (couldn't even remember what lake I was o...

Re: New Years Snowkite Rally-Canceled

Ottertail Lake right now is awesome!! 14+ inches of snow, very thin crust on top, not one bare spot of ice showing. Wore snow shoes to get out to my starting point. I have been up there the past 2 weekends and kiting was excellent. It's a three hour drive for me from Mendota Heights, but it is mostl...

OTTERTAIL LAKE WEEKEND GETAWAY Sept. 12,13,14

Anybody out there interested in a kiting weekend at Ottertail Lake? I am planning for the weekend of Sept. 12,13,14. Those of you who made the trip last year already know what a great lake this is for kiting. Clean/clear water, shallow sandy shelf for launching, 14,000 acres of water, almost always w...
