I just got back from Cabarete, and I total agree with Steve K. There are lots of instructors and places to rent gear in Cabarete. However, it is a bit crowded on a heavy day and shore break is tough to deal with if you are a begginer. Other then that it is a great place to spend time beatuful weathe...

You can look into Gaastra GTR that is no-cam "Freeride" sail. The beaty of this sail is that 8.0 fits on 460 mast, so you will not need to buy mast different then the one you use for yor 6.5. Otherwise, I really like Loft O2 because of their desing and ease to rig and durability and price.

I am planning to be there in beggining of April, so I did some research too. March and April are usually very windy down there, with mostly south-east or north-east direction. Islamorada seems to be the most flexible place to launch. YOu can launch from Holiday Isla hotel with any wind direction. ht...

Both 283 and Techno 2 are very good boards. However, you will be planning much sooner on Techno 2 because it somewhat wider. It is especially important in the 10 - 15 mph range. You can also look at Mistral e-Motion or Radar

do you stay dry wearing drysuit?

Do you stay completely dry wearing drysuit? How about your feet? Are there leaks thru your booties? Is there big difference between Polar Bear and Ocean Rodeo dry suits?

Andrew, I thought that I will add my 2 cents worth. I realy like "Farmer John" style wet suits, since you can wear just a t-short and pants on a chili summer or early fall day, and put on jacket when it gets colder. I think, the-house does not have any of those, but Scuba Center might. Genna

Hey New Dude, Even though you've done some sailing, windsurfing is sligtly different. A lesson or two with Jeff A. will help you get started much faster. In addition he will let you try different equipment, so you can start on his boards and then figure out what you should get (Start, Go, or Nova). ...
