Re: Scotchtoberfest - 30knot club (but just on a kite)
Matt, these speed runs can be fun. Kevin O. and I have been doing some drag racing this season, and we often bring our GPS units along. Early this summer I clocked a 31mph run on my race board with a 13m kite in 10-20mph winds. Kevin had not been able to top that. Last week I clocked a 34.7mph run o...

Re: anybody have any experience carrying kiting gear w/U S A
Gary, what Chad says fits with my experiences. I flew USAir to Hawaii last January. Used the NSI Deceiver bag, which I have used for many trips, and was charged $25 normal bag charge. I was careful to keep the weight just under 50 lbs, but they never even looked at the number on the scale on either ...

Re: Lake pepin conditions?
On my way home from dropping my daughter off for college, I stopped in Lake City for a quick session. Launched right off the point. Have windsurfed many times there years ago, but never tried a kite launch. When the river is at normal water levels a solo drift launch is no problem there. The spot is...

Re: Blade 17M kite demo
Barry always give very thorough, quality reviews. I think he is spot on. I flew the Zephyr and Fat Lady back-to-back as well. Here are my impressions: The FL feels more nimble than the Z. Lighter on the bar too. The FL has more pop for jumping. The Z sets you down for a softer landing. The Z might g...

Re: Iowa Sunday 28th
We will see what kind of wind the weekend brings-- it is a long way off yet. The whole St. Croix should be open by the weekend too. Clear is nice, but 4+ hours in the car always gives me some pause. Cannon may be open by then too.

Re: St. Croix open yet?
Chad, we launched right out of the boat launch in the harbor on the N side of the bridge. It is a tricky launch to be sure, but doable with some experience. Wind direction of 160-180 degrees (S/SE is best). It was 150 degrees yesterday, which makes it tough to get out. I think a drysuit is a necessi...

Fun opener! I love these early spring sessions even if conditions are not ideal. Something great about chasing around for open water. Here is shot of Kevin

Clear Lake Sunday
It looks like conditions will be favorable for a water opener in Clear Lake Sunday. I will check the radar for rain in the morning before going. Kevin, Barry, and possibly some others will go to. Join us if you can.

Re: Duluth?
I ran up for a late morning session. Solid 10m kiting. Chris was well powered on a 5.2 sail. We must have just missed Randy. Steady drizzle was not much of an issue. Great day! Well worth the trip.

Kevin and Barry and I will arrive in the early afternoon. Take the Canal Park exit. Drive over the lift bridge and then go to 22nd ave.
