Pepin

I was curious to see what it looked like today. There are a few fish shacks in Lake City. Doesn't look like anyone has driven a truck out there yet but they have 4 wheelers and snowmobiles out on the lake. The lake itself has consistent snow about 4 to 5 inches deep with a little bit of drifting.......

Re: Lake Pepin Open???

I've only kited on water a couple of times and it was on Pepin. Once in the bay at Bay City but the wind has to be a good direction to hit just right. The second time was from the first wayside south of Maiden Rock. That was nicer. Both bays are shallow. Bay City has a clay bottom so it's kind of sl...

Re: Lake Pepin Open???

Thanks Chris, That's about what I figured. It's not really a lake per se, but a river and with the streams that flow into it, there are soft spots even in a good winter. Maybe next year unless we get a really good stretch of sub zero temps. Not likely

Re: Lake Pepin Open???

Hmmmm. I wonder? When I was at Frontenac St Park on New Years I saw a whole lot of open water and figured it wasn't going to ice completely over this year and to put aside thoughts of kiting. I usually wait until New Years to trust the ice but not this year. But I'm curious now. I'll head down this ...

Yes we saw you up there. We ended up with a good size group and rode till the wind fell. Awesome wind today! Very steady. It was good!

Re: I sincerely apologize to this board...

Thanks Steve...I'm sure I'll like it....no more pumping up kites!

Gotta love someone who would take one for the team Adventure...but please don't rip your kite...there are other ways to get the wind to blow...work, sprain an ankle, family responsibities...etc. Be creative lol

I sincerely apologize to this board...

I personally killed the wind this week. It's my fault....I bought a brand spanking new kite after spending a frustrating weekend at the expo with a too small a kite for the wind. That said if anyone is interested in kiting late Monday afternoon on Lake Pepin I'll be able to get her first virgin ride...

Anyone still local in Pepin?

Is there anyone still local down here kiting Pepin? I haven't been out yet but I've been thinking it's time. PM me or reply here. Thanks

Re: Saturday 1-31

I was on Pepin a couple of nights ago and the snow was beautiful. I'll be riding out of the town of Pepin tomorrow late morning if the wind is from the SW. Right now the wind is from the SE...if it stays from the SE then it'll be the MN side.

Re: Friday, Lake Pepin

Lake Pepin is about 2 miles wide and 20 miles long. If you launch from the WI side to cross the town of Pepin has a boat launch and beach you can launch from and so does Stockholm. Stockholm would be the closest to Lake City.

Re: Saturday at the WAC

Hi Gusty...did Pepin survive the melt down? I took my son out on Christmas and gave him his first lesson on the B3. It was perfect out on Pepin! I'm busy Sunday but I have one more week off...let me know if there's any snow left.

Re: Pepin Conditions

I plan on kiting Friday. I have a friend coming from Rochester also. SE winds. Wednesday I'll be in the cities so if I have time I might be able to catch some Bear. I didn't kite today for the same reasons...too early to be on the ice alone.

Re: Pepin Conditions

I drove down today and checked the ice off the wayside and the south boat landing. I had an 8 1/2 inch ice screw. The thinest I could find was about 8 inches and only twice. I walked out quite aways and it's deeper than my screw. The powder on the lake is a consistant 6 inches with small soft drifts...

Hi Troy,
I wish I could make it this morning but I can't head out until later in the afternoon. Would you please post and let me know if the waves were big? Thanks!

Re: Hey Pete and Gustuser

Thanks Pete! I am getting anxious for that ice to form. Meantime I've run out of that fast river water to play...at least until the fall storms. If you see we're going to get some big waves/swells on Pepin give me a holler...I'd like to throw on and see what happens :D
