Re: Missin yall!

Nice vid! Good to see you out there getting some. Have not had a chance to watch the whole cut, but it looks like some good editing. Wish I knew how to do that!

I'm not riding too much these days but the scene here is still pretty good I'm told. Take care and thanks for sharing!

Re: Herbster Heaven

Leelanau, an Indian word meaning: "Delight of Life," certainly reflects what can be seen when traveling this peninsula, one of Michigan’s gems. This name, suggested by Henry Schoolcraft, Michigan’s Indian agent during the mid 1800’s, aptly fits the feeling one gets when looking over the pristine wa...

Said Waconia is the place you ought to be

If it really blows northwest that is.

Maneuverability

Now that my kids are getting a little older (4 & 2) I am committing more to T-ball coaching and other Dad things since they are boys and that’s what a lot of dads tend to do. So I am sailing less. And kiting a lot less. For some reason windsurfing seems a little more appropriate for the occasional s...

Yep, it's nice and sunny in the southwest metro right now and the wind has really come up in the past couple of hours, should be good at Waconia!

Re: Monday

It's a great sail, thanks Prof! Rigs on a 430 mast which was a little surprising, and draws a crowd because of it's old school look, but it's fine. Easy to waterstart and the single cam is not hard to rig if you untension it prior to downhauling. Young Nate took out the 4.7M sister sail and had fun ...

Re: Monday

Monday at Waconia was great for windsurfers and kiters alike. Sunday I got there late and rigged 3.9M and got some great rides. Monday I started off on 4.7M for a while then rigged 4.2M for the last bit. Classic Wac, windsurfers ripping and kiters blasting, no problems except fighting wind chill on ...

Re: The Wac on Sunday?

Just got back from a 12-hour family vacation drive with a 2 and 4 year old Saturday night, so I couldn’t run off to the lake first thing Sunday. Had to watch the kiddies until 3pm. When I finally got to the Wac folks were rigging down. I ended up rigging 3.9M with an 85L wave board I picked up earli...

West Side Windsurfing Option for SSE to E

I've been meaning to try this launch for a little while, Chris Butzow has talked about it. It's the City of Mound boat launch and beach, identified as Bay Park on the map below. Worked nice yesterday for some light wind windsurfing (way too many hazards to even think about kiting). I think the wind ...

Re: waconia on N,

I agree with Tighe, please use extreme caution when it comes to the south beach. Anytime between Memorial Day and Labor Day (or whenever the swim buoys are out), especially on a weekend is really pushing it. There could still be people in jackets using the beach and there are now giant permanent sun...

Re: Calhoun and Waconoia pix

Hey Sean, nice shots. Always good to see you city slickers light out to the country every now & again. Keeps us hip (well sort of)! The wind was 7.5+ early and I had neither time nor motivation to re-rig later on and I got worked. Advantage: Overpowered jibes made me get the feel for what a full pla...

Re: FRIDAY'S RIDE

Well the wind didn't necessarily live up to the forecast, but it was still fun out there. Shoulda brought some bigger gear, doh! I was windsurfing upwind past the island, it looked better up there and Jerry was cruising around the vicinity. All of a sudden he's going downwind around the island out o...

Re: Kiting in the rain this PM

Yes, I was hoping to see you out there! It was pretty good 14M kiting in the morning, then it rained so I went to get pizza for lunch and it was still pretty good wind after lunch. Some rain, but not too bad. I windsurfed around the island on Tuesday, and I was joking with Andy he should try it toda...

Re: Lighting the Fuse

Thanks Tighe. I think I just needed more wind. I happened to switch over to it just when the wind started sketching out. Then as soon as I came in for dinner it picked up again of course. It's a nice board with a little floaty feel but cuts through chop like butter. I felt like I was side slipping d...

Lighting the Fuse

I picked up an SS Fuse from John Z early in the season. I'm embarassed to say I didn't get on it until today. It was an impromptu gift sesh at the Wac. Decent with a 14 T3 and SX151. Thought the Fuse would work too, but I felt underpowered and tough to get upwind. Seemed to ride better backward than...

Yes, the sensor on the sailflow page is the reading from the wind sensor at Carlsona... You can also get to the detailed Carlsona listing and webcam image at the link below: http://www.mnadventure.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=242&Itemid=60 Thanks Mark, that's a great link and it...

Re: Wacky Monday

Yeah, I noticed the sensor called Mille Lacs on Sailflow is showing 13kts SW already this morning while most others are pretty dead. Does anyone know if that's the sensor at Carlsona? Not sure what to do, don't necessarily want to hump it all the way to Milly, but thinking about asking for permission!

Re: Newbie Q: SE Winds - Waconia or Washington?

Waconia is not the best on SE, SSE works but as it clocks more east it gets sketchy. SE is 135 degrees on the wind clock, SSE is roughly 160 degrees. Anything less than 150 degrees is going to get dirty as it starts to blow offshore from the DNR ramp. That said, since you are talking windsurfing and...

Re: OK to store rigged windsurfing sails?

Jibber in South Padre leaves his rental sails all on the mast and stacks them on a home made flat bed trailer without the boom. Pretty slick. David Ezzy has some pretty good rigging videos out on YouTube. Every season I have to remind myself how to rig the darn downhaul! UNDER the sail pulley closes...
