I don't trust Calhoun ice yet since the middle was open water as recently as Monday. Does anyone know if Nokomis ice is safe? Or any other metro area ice? Would love to get out Saturday for the first time this winter season! any info greatly appreciated!

Eric, it doesn't do you any good now, but Calhoun remains ice free and Tony and I both windsurfed on it Saturday afternoon (the same day others were freeskating on ice less than one hour away near Monticello.

thanks for the post! I'm hoping to hear from Jerry Sandell this week that Pelican Lake in Monticello, MN is safe enough for us to sail this Saturday 11/16! and I hope it's smooooooooooooth like it was last year.

I'm not even sure if it's still there but I saw a 460 Chinook mast near the "canoe hotel" on the north side of Lake Calhoun over the Labor Day weekend, or possibly the Friday before Labor Day, i don't recall. I didn't grab it, so if you left it there, I hope it's still there!

Thanks for posting Eric, nice sailing with you Sunday and Monday (where were you on Saturday?). I'd be out there again today if i wasn't stuck working. The current forecast looks like we may get some wind this coming warm weekend. Fingers crossed, the smooth ice is so awesome!

There was no mention of any charge, and i have not received a bill in the mail and wasn't really expecting one. But if I do get one, it's probably gonna be worth it not having to replace my snowfer and the rig (it was a decent Ezzy sail and a good mast).

Yes, Rob, OK to share with others. Also, the water patrol got my gear for me a few days later! Thank you to whomever suggested calling them, it worked! No damage to gear except rust on the snowfer blades which i can easily remove!

I don't believe we'll have any open water we can sail/kite on around the metro area anytime soon, but any updates of open water would be appreciated. I'd happily drive to Swede if that were the only option.

I'd drive down to Clear Lake (sailed there once before) but the forecast for there is the same as here: rain.
