Wow Jim, glad it wasnt more serious, take it easy and get better soon. Those vicious unpredictable gusts in the Gorge can be a challenge for even the best.

Re: why MOST sailors lose speed during gybes...Most don't ca

I like to visualize a gybe as closer to a 90 degree turn - entering on a broad reach and exiting on a broad reach for max speed - rather than a full 180 which can lead to rounding up and stalling. Sheeting in while leaning the mast towards the center of the turn, looking around the front of the mast...

Re: Next revolution: Windsurf Foiling

Hey good to hear from you guys. Miss sailing with the die-hard MN crew but the water here is indeed much softer - and three dimensional to boot! Some intimidating big winter waves starting to ramp up, still trying to wrap my head around the awesomeness of them while gradually getting lured deeper an...

Re: Next revolution: Windsurf Foiling

Robbie Naish doing a little foiling R&D at Kanaha and holding a clinic with Brian "Irie Mon" Talma and Kai Lenny. He just closed the Naish retail store here in Maui :(, says even though windsurfing sales are still good in Europe and Asia they are down in the U.S. - but foiling firing u...

Re: Baa, Baa, Black Sheep

*Gasp* No way! Dude, where'd ja go? For years I searched the obituaries in vain before writing you off as yet another victim of domestic life. Meanwhile, rumors regarding your whereabouts ran rampant. "I heard he moved to New Zealand and cornered the market on lambchops" and "Well, so...

Re: 1988, yesterday, story and insight request

Bummed that i missed it, cuz i have great memories of 88. A gigantic bermuda high had parked itself over the southeast u.s causing the jetstream to roar right overhead minnesota almost every day that summer. We had something like 40 plus straight days of above 90 temps during one of those drought ye...

Re: What year is this board?

DCS refers to the construction. If I remember right Mistral had two types in that era, DCS and LCS. DCS (Durable Carbon System) was their standard build with a strip or two of carbon reinforcement, it was more durable and less expensive. LCS (Light Carbon System), was lighter with more of a full car...

Re: Cannon open?

Dude. Hardcore. With a cold no less. Cant keep a good man down. Pepin was gusty but trusty, with a few very large chunks of wood floating around. As in whole oak trees. Which was an advantage really, cuz ya could see 'em from about two miles away. Hell, if you got tired you just could hang out on on...

Re: Cannon open?

???? This says cannon is open. http://climate.umn.edu/doc/ice_out/ice_out_status_10.htm Sounds like thats half true anyway, Brian said its open on the north side of the bridge but not on the south. A few of us will be at the rest stop north of Lake City today for those who feel like dodging some fl...
