How about a new sub-heading "Foiling"?

These windsports evolve so fast. Kiting and foiling weren't even around when Tighe first created this site. Now we've got kiting, windsurfing and winging, each with their application of the foil. No one better than the other. Just a different tool for different conditions and skills. Other social me...

Re: Windsurf season Begins! (Fall quarter)!!!!!

Great heads up! Yes, this week will be one to remember. Looking forward to this afternoon, Tuesday and Wednesday. Hope you had a good session yesterday in SW Mn. Wind was just too junky yesterday for me, even on foil. Sure hoping these forecasts hold. This morning when I woke, most forecasts were st...

Re: Jim Oakes injured

Just an update. No surgery needed. Healing well. Still wearing neck brace, but saw a picture of him picking up a little one the other day. Judd and I did Lake Superior Wednesday. 20-35mph, 5-9' seas. Tott Lot was too much for me and Judd couldn't get out with a foil with the bigger waves. I tried to...

Jim Oakes injured

fyi, Saturday Jim Oakes broke his neck doing his infamous forward looping. A wind gust caught him and he landed in the sail. Fortunately, it was the perfect bone to break because it didn't cause paralysis and he's expected to have a full recovery. Please send your healing energy his way. Always bett...

Re: Ice on Medicine NOT SAFE

Good suggestions. Seems we can never say too much about exit plans when pushing the window of safety. I had two weeks of epic ice, but took several precautions. For sure, the lakes this year had a huge variety of freeze points given the never ending winds. There was ice on our lake, 3rd of Forest La...

Lake Superior birthday present- 2013, 2017 and 2018

Looks like Mother will deliver me once more with 15-25 knot NE winds. Come join Judd and I in the celebration. Hey Bill S., I know it's your birthday too. Are you coming up?

Re: Next revolution: Windsurf Foiling

Forgot to reply to your question about Judd, the master foiler. He's pretty amazing at kitefoiling and quickly adapted when he tried my windsurf Kerfoil setup. It's been great to ride with someone of his skills, comparing the pros and cons of the various toys we use. Yesterday was typical 5-20mph, s...

Re: Next revolution: Windsurf Foiling

Eric, the St. Croix is great for foiling. I'm heading to Stillwater now to see if the wind kicks up enough, but Sunday looks pretty good for now. Hoping to see that new toy in action. Looks pretty sweet!!

Re: Des Moines I love you! Saylorville Lake

IMG_7847.jpg Thursday was the typical 5-20mph wind, so I used the 7.8M Loft cam Switchblade. Spent most of the day with the Bic Kerfoil. Dave Holmes had done a repair for me and it worked beautifully. I was a little nervous to maiden voyage the Slingshot Hoverglide FWind 1 in cold water. The mast i...

Had a great day windfoiling. Tomorrow looks even better. I’ve got Bic’s Kerfoil and Slingshots windsurf foil if you want to check them out.

Re: Next revolution: Windsurf Foiling

So glad you made the move, Chris. Awesome photos and just have to see if you met up with Brian Talma. He's the Barbadian in the second photo...black skin, blonde hair and green eyes.. He's the 'what's the action, Man' guy. We traveled through Europe together several years back... One of the most ins...

Next revolution: Windsurf Foiling

Windsurf Foiling Around 2001 I saw some guys in Maui adding a paddle to their surfboards. My closed mind attitude judged it as ‘stupid’. I kept this limited thinking until 2011 when I saw guys in California having a blast on them. Jim Brothen had been doing it in Maui and I had scoffed at the idea, ...

Re: WORTHINGTON!!

Can't believe it. Last year I blew a hole in my radiator when I got to Jackson. This year I'm packed and ready to go, only to wake up to an auto immune deal that's got me at 103 degrees and tin man joints. And it's blowing 30-40. My wife hid keys to the van. Probably a good decision, but doesn't fee...

Re: WORTHINGTON!!

This is classic Lake Okebena. If you like high wind sailing and live music, it's the only place on the planet that has put this combo together for us. I've jostled some things around to make it down there for the 25-35+ mph winds, plus the winds die off just in time for the music, Should be some gre...

Pat Taylor

Another of our great friends of the ride has transitioned, leaving his body last week. If you've ever windsurfed White Bear Lake, you remember Pat Taylor's smile. He carried a great energy with him and was passionate about the outdoors, windsurfing, biking and rollerblading. Pat and his wife, Robyn,...

Re: Any old timers remember Father Jonathan?

You always knew it was going to be a great day when he showed up at Ramsey Beach. What a great soul! He definitely enhanced the spiritual element of boardsports. He continually showed us how we all wanted to be through his humility and compassion.
