I used to use silicone spray, but I found it gets dirty quickly. Now I use air tool oil (the stuff used to lube air nail guns) and it performs much better. But I don't know how it holds up in the cold. I haven't had it freeze on me yet.

You might want to check out this spot by lacrosse, WI. I used to canoe here and there's a park. It's on the south side of Lake Onalaska on French Island. Probably a 1/2 hr drive from Winona.
