Re: Anyone making homemade land / ice board?

Okay I gave this idea a test run today and it worked pretty well. My first time in a buggy so I can't really compare to sand, but it gripped well and yet I could still give the back end a little slide without feeling like it was going to spin out. Nice option for the bumpy ice and patches of snow th...

Re: Anyone making homemade land / ice board?

Thanks for the ideas and sharing pics! Studs falling off seems to be a common challenge out there. Also buggy tires are maybe a bit too thin to really hold studs very well? So I'll try something new here and let you know how it goes. I studded three snowmobile clutch belts. Yes, kind of weird but he...

Anyone making homemade land / ice board?

Hey folks, wondering if anybody got tired of waiting for snow and decided to build something that rides well on bumpy ice?? Anyone try studding the tires of a landboard or anything? I'm imagining a set of fat, oversized, soft, tires on a landboard with studs to eat in to the ice. Yet wide enough to ...

Twin City Lake Temps ~50F Apr 26

Anybody been out on lakes around here? How are conditions? Looks like the lakes are a little low which is good for launch and land. Last year was a bit tricky at the beginning of the year. My wetsuit is good starting about about 55F water temp and that goes for my comfort level as well in case somet...

Re: Any thin ice on Medicine Lake we should be aware of?

I know there was a truck that went through the ice on Cooks bay on Minnetonka a week or two ago, hadn't heard about Medicine. Part of my concern is that I lived right by Cooks bay for 20 years and never once saw any thin ice or open water on that bay. Was very surprised that the truck driver said it...

Any thin ice on Medicine Lake we should be aware of?

Looks like some snow coming Tuesday and ample SE wind. Was thinking of hitting Medicine from the north boat launch. Has anyone been out? Any thin ice or other dangers out there?

thanks!

Re: South Padre Roster

As irrational as it is, especially according to the shark article above, I think my legs would freeze if I saw your shark, I'd catch the front edge and then probably get the beast tangled up in my lines. Then I'm certain he would be less casual about my presence. Whoever goes out to Lk Waconia must ...

Re: South Padre Roster

Mike K says there are kite-eating sharks on the golf side so I'm staying on the lagoon side. Although I heard there are shark-eating octopus lurking in the lagoon. Good incentives to stay on top of the water on either side! I'm going Nov 6-11 as a first timer. Looking forward to see what this is all...

Re: Waconia Tuesday Sep 30?

I hope you weren't floating out there too long! It did look windy out there a ways but every time I went out too far it seemed to fade and I barely made it back, so I kept closer to shore. Have fun Friday if the wind sticks. I don't think I can get out of work again for a week or two and expect by t...

Re: Waconia Tuesday Sep 30?

Well that ended up being a very pleasant session from about 2:00 to 4:00. I was the only one out there until another guy (was that you Fabrino?) showed up. A few short lulls required a quick walk back upshore. But quite a few 18-20mph gusts blistered through too. The wind was coming in at an angle a...

Waconia Tuesday Sep 30?

Sitting here at work and Wind alert says a 15+mph wind at Waconia blowing from east. Anyone going out today? Will the bike path launch site work for east wind?

Re: Weekend in MN

Well thankfully the body they found wasn't mine, Mike! I've only kited Lake independence in the winter so far. Though nice public park on the east side, gets deep fast and a fair amount of weeds. Andd need a wind with strong westerly component.

Re: Weekend in MN

I was hoping one of the more experienced kiters would reply, but here's my take. Now that we're closer to Sep 11, doesn't look like there's much wind coming the next few days except for a thunderstorm wind. My two cents if you still decide to bring your kites...Spring and Prior Lakes are fairly smal...

Skunked Sunday. Anyone going out today? (Wednesday)

I was thinking Lk Waconia or Lk Washington after noon, but the weather has been downright wonky lately. Anyone going out? Speaking of wonky weather, last weekend I had about an hour and a half to do some kiting while at a family get together at my in-laws on Lk Minnetonka. The wind forecast was look...

Re: Medicine or Waconia today

I was out at Wac today at 3PM launching from where the bike path crosses the dirt road on the north side. I think its North Shore Road. Wind was more south east than due east with a couple 20+ gusts. East probably would have been fine too yet straight side shore. I'm a noob and had a delicious sessi...

Who's tried water skis or other things with kite?

When I was a kid, I did a lot of slalom skiing and we didn't have wake boards back then. But what I remember was the tremendous amount of traction and control you had with a quality slalom ski. The narrow shape, contoured underside and big keel in the back gave you total control. You could hold an a...

Re: Boards & Bindings Discussion

Thanks for the suggestions! Sounds like what I'm experiencing with the board slipping right off isn't normal. I'll take a look at the LF bindings.

Curious has anyone tried using a standard wakeboard or skis or anything else on their feet? What kind of experience was it?

Boards & Bindings Discussion

Hey all, last year was my first on the water and looking for some advice now that I've got some practical experience behind me. My Slingshot board seems to fall off very easily no matter how tight the bindings are. Maybe that's good for safety? Maybe my feet are too flat and skinny (they are)? I don...
