Re: 2014 17m turbine review

I love mine. While taking lessons in NC this summer they tried me on a Best light wind kite. Can not remember the name. I could not get it to launch and stay going for anything. After 30 minutes we went in and they had a 17 Turbine pumped up and ready to go for me. I launched it, and rode off with i...

Re: Lost GoPro at Waconia

Everybody: Always put a tether strap on the GoPros and anchor them to a second spot on a helmet or whatever they are attached to. I have no fewer than 10 cases where my GoPro came loose (adhesive came off, clips broke, broken brackets, etc) and the tether strap saved it every single time. It is chea...

There are things we are exposed to that are far more dangerous than sharks:

Re: Windy thoughts

I'm willing to make the low winds work, so all is not wasted. If the lake stays calm and the raindrops quit, I'll head to the lake with my daughters and my youngest to work on her barefooting skills. So, even if you are not getting wind enough for lessons, someone is doing all they can to make lemon...

Re: wind

It is gone for sure. Last Saturday I took my 11 year old to a school for barefoot skiing. Epic conditions all morning and we did not get one wisp of wind until 12:40, and the class was over at 1 pm. It sucked to be a kiter on that day, but fantastic conditions for barefooting. When life gives you le...

Re: Electric pumps

I have the Black and Decker that I got about 3 years ago after watching you pump up my kite at a lesson I was taking with you. I like it a lot but I have to finish off the final few PSI with a hand pump. For winter kiting there is nothing better than screwing in an ice screw, unfolding the kite next...

Just got word from Slopecat that he is going. So if you see us down in SPI, he could probably use a beer or two. :D

Re: South Padre Island - where is the excitement!!!

I've been following your posts. Thanks for the updates. My (our) trip of Slopecat and I was in limbo for a few days. Slopecat came home to a flooded house on Wednesday due to a second floor water leak on a toilet supply line. Every floor was soaked. Insurance is taking over and a cleanup crew is on ...

Re: Flying to Costa Rica This Weekend..

I just tried to fit my boards into my golf bag and neither of them fit. Not even close. Boards are too long and too wide. A small board might fit, but not a lite wind one.

Re: Flying to Costa Rica This Weekend..

I'm not sure if it will hold that. Let me try putting my Crazy Fly or my Slingshot Glide in it and see if either of them fit. I'll give it a try late tonight and I'll let you know.

South Padre Island - where is the excitement!!!

Come on people, there are a lot of folks heading down to SPI yet nobody is stoking the fires up here with excitement. You all on downers or something? I am stacking gear up and getting ready for The Big Drive down starting April 19th. Slopecat and I are going to drive down burning the roads and then...

Re: Flying to Costa Rica This Weekend..

If you are interested I have a golf bag I am not using and you are welcome to use it. It is brand new (only used once). I have heard that if they are banged up it helps make them get through checkers easier. So if you want to borrow it you are welcome to come to Lake Elmo and pick it up sometime.

Re: Ice Not Safe

The guy that went through the ice and drowned also was on a pond, those thaw faster. And it also had nearly 30' of open water around the edges in spots. Sorry, but Darwinian genetics wins in this case. I checked the lake near me and the ice fisherman coming off the lake said there was still a solid ...

Re: drones on calhoun

My brother got sight of one flying over his property last week and they were checking out his business operation. He runs a firewood business in Upstate, NY and he saw a quad flying around by his processing equipment and it was flying back and forth over the piles of wood as if to be seeing how much...

Re: drones on calhoun

If someone came near me with a drone and they did not have permission or I did not know them, I would be very upset. If they hit my lines or worse, my kite and put a hole in the fabric, I would be livid. The minute the drone hit the ground I would run the blasted thing over with my board or skis. Pe...

Re: Anyone attempt the slay the wind beast today, Wednesday

I have a brand new 4.5 RPM and 6 M RPM and I figured that one of them would work pretty good for those conditions. But alas, I too chickened out. I was out earlier in the week and it went so-so, thus I was not looking for another mediocre to bad session. I also really did not want to get hurt. I had...

Anyone attempt the slay the wind beast today, Wednesday 2-26

I was wondering if anyone got out and rode today in the Twin City area? The winds were brutal and it had me thinking of giving it a try, but I decided against it. I would like to know if anyone went out and if so what did they ride and what did it feel like. I'm guessing it was a 4 or 6 Meter kite d...

Re: Ski/ snowboard wax

I bought a cheap iron that I use for waxing my own skis and board (and my kid's gear). It is really easy to do especially if you make a jig to hold skis and boards so the bindings are not in the way. The best part is I can switch waxes depending on conditions in about 15 minutes in my workshop. Now ...

Re: night (mare) session at Calhoun

The strings pass parallel and up through a set of "fingers" that wrap around the lines. They are at the 4 corners of the CamRig. They ship 4 green clips, one at each corner, but one does not need that many. One is plenty, and that gets attached to the fixed central line. The sliding centra...
