Re: Where's the conversation?

Thanks Mike!

It's nice to have this forum up for reference. There is lots of knowledge on spots we still use, and older gear that we sometimes need info on. Again, thanks for keeping this up!

Re: Mille Lacs Crossing - best snow year ever???

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh the snow on mille is nuts! Like 2" of powder on top of a crusty base, with huge piles all up and down the road. The road at garrison sports is fine for 2wd.

Mille Lacs Crossing - best snow year ever???

Looking at WindyTY (or now windy.com). It is looking like this will be the best year up on Mille ever for snow. https://www.windy.com/-Rain-thunder-rain?rain,43.882,-99.207,6,i:pressure Anybody with any reports from on the ice up there as of now. I am counting 3 more predicted snow shots to hit ther...

Re: Silver and GOLD - Ice kiting and sailing Silver Lake, MN

So........... Ice thickness??? Any open spots? I took a drive from Omaha, NE to Sioux Falls, SD a day ago ad pretty much every 3' deep slough was frozen over. Some deeper ones were open, some shallower ones had baked open in the sun. But it is nice the ground should be cold enough to not melt snow f...

Re: KONA WORLDS Florida 2018

NICE!!!! Good to hear that the Kona's are still alive and well. Too bad about the Dam Jam getting canceled this year. Only made it out once on a windsurfer this year (same board, Mistral "Pacifico", as in that other 'evil' thread). Only lasted about 1hour. That is 20minutes longer than wak...

Re: The Ghouls are coming out of the woodwork!

Sub planing - inflatables are ok, so long as you have not been spoiled on a rigid board.

Planing..........anybody ever plane an inflatable windsurfer?????

Nebraska - a rail on a kitesurfboard

On my way back from the Oregon Coast this September, I followed I-80 all the way back through the Midwest. Lots of Denver kiters hang out here at Lake McConaughy. Thanks to Kevinousdigian for getting me my first me my first LF Kitefish (an old red one - not in the pics) so I could keep doing stupid ...

Snowkiting Spirit Lake, IA

Trying to get out of work for a snowkite trip up to Spirit Lake. Monday and Tuesday look great. Both days look like they would work for Christopherson WMA 1 mile north of Superior, IA. Tuesday could be fun at Spring run, 2.0miles east of the intersection of 276 and hwy 9. There are a couple of dams,...

Re: Snowkiting - Looking for advice on kite size

I am crossing my fingers again for a good winter here. I love Utah, but it's been done. Hopefully, I can kite around here in Omaha, or head up to the glacial escarpments of eastern South Dakota, south western Minnesota, or the Spirit Lake area in North central Iowa. The terrain almost rivals that of...

Terrain snowkiting Eastern South Dakota

Just by looking at the snowcover maps, I may postpone heading west to Skyline in Utah for the chance to ride at Mazeppa/Myers Lake Just about 30 minutes away from Watertown, SD. The terrain there is epic with a snakey winding valley with massive cornices presented at multiple directions. The lake sh...

Kiting pics from Western Nebraska

From the white sandy beaches of Lake McConaughy - some inland kite surfing pics. This was Wednesday (5/18/16) on a 13.5, but Thursday was full on 8m kite with twice the wave height. The shore break here is awesome if you have a board with bomber fins like the KiteFish.

Dam Jam

dam jam, Dam Jam, DAM JAM!!!!!!!! Next weekend is the Saylorville Dam Jam on Saylorville Lake north of Des Moines, IA. It is one of the best windsurfing meets with wind like 10 years in a row. For camping, the Dam Jam reserves a group camp circle that I am pretty sure has some power available. Showe...

Re: Visitor's question - ice safety during warm spell

Kind of the same question I have about Mille for the weekend of the Crossing. The answer is: You can never find out from a forum about actual conditions. I own a small hand ice auger and drill a few holes as well as talk to some icefishermen. If the ice is 12" or more, you only have to worry ab...

Terrain of Spirit Lake, IA

Looks like Spirit Lake will be getting some more of the goods on Saturday night. The terrain spots are epic and definitely worth honing your skills on before you hit the mountains out west like Wyoming or Utah. Heck, I left Utah to kite these spots. I am headed up to hotel-del-walmarto-parkingloto S...

henjj sent me a post about the current state of kiteboarding with regards to snowkiting. Pretty much mirrors my thoughts on many levels from most of the dedicated snowkiters who took the time to share their thoughts. http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2391375 Forums are dying though NW...
