Broken Kite String
What are the options for a broken kite string? After an hour of riding last night on Lake Calhoun, I made an amateur move when taking a break. I connected my ice screw to the chicken loop, and not the brake line (trailing edge lines). The kite quickly powered up, and wham, the left front line snappe...

Light Wind Kite Suggestions
Are there any kites that are good in "low" wind conditions. I'm describing low wind as 7-10mph. I'd like to go snow kiting only, but not all days are prime conditions over 13mph, which is when I break out my Ozone foil kites. I think I heard that Slingshot machine 17.5s were good in condit...

Loosening knots in kite lines
So I had the great idea of modifying the line lengths of my 9M Ozone Frenzy kite. I made normal knots, not the "easy to undo" kind. Went kiting this winter, and put normal line tension through them. However, I made the front lines a little short, so would like to remove a few, but can't se...

If you get snowkiting t-shirts made with the LAKAWA logo - put me down for 2. I think there might be interest from others as well!

Re: Warning: Thin Ice on Lake Minnetonka
As a noobie and non-ice fisherman/snowmobiler, etc, how safe are the ice conditions in general now? Still safe to drive a car out to kite island on Minnetonka? Was hoping to get out while the wind speeds are up!

Adjusting control line length
Has anyone adjusted the line length on their setup? If so, which lines and by how much? I have a 10M Ozone Frenzy and sometimes wish the kite were a little more aggressive with the bar fully pulled in. Does shortening the leading edge lines make the kite more responsive? Is it easy to undo the knot/...

Thursday afternoon, or evening?
Will wind conditions be better Thursday afternoon (2-6pm), or evening (6-9pm)? I see some gusts in the afternoon, but not sure if people will steer towards one or the other. I'm a newbie, so any suggestions would be nice. I am thinking of going out to Kite Island on Minnetonka! Blue / Yellow 10M Ozo...

Lake Minnetonka late Tuesday night/Wed mng
Anyone planning on heading out to lake Minnetonka when the winds are up around 14mph on late Tuesday evening? I'm going to head out, a little west of Kite Island where the winds are a little more unobstructed.

Re: Ski Length and type?
I am 6'5", 250lb, and have two pair of skis: Solomon X Screams that are 187cm lg, and a pair of Salomon 1080 Foil twin tips that are 175cm long. I like black/double black tree skiing, carving fast on blues, and deep powder out west - the Foils are nice as they float, are quick turning, and resp...

Re: Staying local today
I rode Staring Lake in Eden Prairie from 3-6pm today. Yes, the lake butts up against a hill (South end is Flying Cloud Airport), but has EXCELLENT snow cover (2-3in) and is 14,000acres. The winds were consistent and provided a good time!

Snow Kiting Trip to Utah or Idaho
Anyone interested in taking a trip out to Utah, Idaho, or any other kite skiing destination and sharing costs such as lodging, gas, etc? I was thinking March time frame. Think it could be a fun way to meet new people, share tips, and get away. If the winds aren't blowing, there are plenty of good sk...

Lake Calhoun Conditions after Rain/Sleet
The beautiful surface conditions of Lake Calhoun sadly aren't the same as 2days ago. The 3-6 inches of fluffy powder has been melted and all that remains is a hard pack layer of ice with patches of sleet pellets and wind blown ridges. See the attached 2 pictures. Edging on skis would have been a cha...

Re: Kiting Strategy - not ending up too far downwind
The problem has self corrected itself. Today I went to Lake Calhoun and realized that I just was working with too little space to be effective. With wide open terrain, there wasn't any issue with cutting and moving upwind. Thanks for all of the replies and assistance! Newbies like me appreciate the ...

Kiting Strategy - not ending up too far downwind
I'm a newby in kite skiing, and need some assistance on strategy. I just went out today to a local field, and I was slightly successful. My problem is that I ended up quite far downwind and had to hike back a considerable distance. Is the goal to be doing a figure eight relative to the wind, as I've...

Re: Gopro camera
For most video shooting, 8GB will be enough. However, for a few more dollars, double the capacity and never worry again. A safe choice would be a 16GB, class 6. What is important is the "Class" of card, . Class 0 cards do not specify performance, which includes all legacy cards prior to cl...

Ice and snow weight
With this much snowfall, are there concerns with the ice breaking due to the weight? I don't want to be "that guy" who falls through! New to snow kiting, and have only done it in fields so far. Thanks!!
