Just spoke to him. He's catching a plane to Chicago and hasn't been back to Columbia Heights to check out how many screws he has in MN. I told him I could take at least 7 (if they're turbos). Our conversation was short- he'll call me when he gets to Chicago.

Used Ice Screws

I may have found a source for some used 16cm and 19cm Black Diamond Turbo (I think) ice screws. I haven't seen them yet. I posted a WANTED ad on Craigslist and got an email from a guy in Columbia Heights who has "a lot" of them. I'm not sure how many he has (he said most of them are in Uta...

Each GPS manufacturer (Garmin, Magellan, Lowrance, etc.) has it's own data format. If you need to convert from one format to another (for loading into Googlemaps or other software) you can use the freeware program gpsbabel. Download it from here http://www.gpsbabel.org/ or you can do it online at th...

Thanks, glad you checked 'em out. I posted some shots earlier on a different link but this new photo site that Tighe, Tyson, Coach set up is awesome! Thanks guys! I was shooting a Canon 20D with a 70-200mm f/2.8L lens hooked into a 2x teleconverter (a doubler). Basically, with the 1.6x multiplicatio...

camping is free or very cheap

I lived on the islands for 3 yrs '96-'99. It's not advertised because the tourism/hotel board of Hawaii doesn't make any money off of it- but there's lots of free/cheap camping to be had on all of the islands. I took mini-vacations and island-hopped with a tent- doing lots of hiking and camping. For...

Hey thanks for the nice words on the shots. It was pretty awesome up there. Those guys were coming in with huge smiles across their faces. I just might have to pick up a higher volume board so I can get out there too. If anyone wants a cd of the hi-res pics, let me know... deknight25 at Yahoo.

Superior Pics Yesterday

I was lucky enough to take the afternoon off and head up to the Tot-Lot on Park Point yesterday afternoon. The onshore winds were a little light for my 230 lb frame supported on a 5.0 and 83L board- so I took some pics. Not sure how to post them on lakawa- so I compressed 'em and put them in a slide...

As of 11:50 am this morning, the Allete WebCam (middle link above) has zoomed in on Park Point. You can see kites going off of Park Point on the middle link posted above- wow those sets are coming in fast!

Duluth WebCams

I wish I could get up to Duluth and sail but I'm stuck to my desk. So I searched for some webcams near Duluth. Not sure if these have been posted here before but they show it's pretty dang windy up there. The pier is wet with wave spray. Anyway, check out the links for some views of the current cond...

I need a wind fix... spent all day Saturday at Cannon and it never popped above 6.o m sailing... so I'm debating Father Hennepin or Port Wing. I think I'm opting for Mille- hate to drive another hour to get skunked again. Maybe I gotta bite the bullet and get some bigger equipment? Nah... See you gu...

Blast from the Past

I remember that summer. In '88, I graduated from Lake Johanna to White Bear. I put my 13' Wayler Chipper on the shelf (a board with an actual bow designed to part the water  ), bought a planable F2 Comet, picked out my first harness, got into the straps, and figured out a jibe and my waterstar...

Thanks Mike, although Todd took most of the shots- some with my camera, some with his camera. There's more at his website: http://www.pbase.com/expresso77

White Bear Pics - Big Wednesday

It was nice to get out in the big wind again. A handful of us were at Bellaire Beach on The Bear.

I can't figure out how to insert them here... but I put some pics on my yahoo page. Go here:

Curtis, Nope, that's as big as I get- 5.7 and 83 liters. At 220 lbs, I can't uphaul it so I did end up swimming in several times only to be lured back out by big gusts. I really only go out on big days- mostly at White Bear. I was visiting a friend's cabin (Kris Pierre) on the point. I was giving le...

Hey DuckJibe, I was up on Horseshoe with you yesterday. My 5.7 and Tiga 260 were dialed in the puffs but I took one ride too many and had to make the long swim in. It would have been cleaner on Pelican but we got some nice rides- I think you had the better setup- you were planing non-stop throwing s...
