Do you get into Bark Bay or Corny Bay at all when you're in that area?

Re: Kite size
Nice post, Tighe; 'bout wraps it up.. One thing nobody mentioned yet: Plan a trip to someplace like South Padre Island, TX, take a couple of lessons there and get a chance to dial in your skills in easy learning conditions. There you'll have steady wind and miles of shallow, walk around and flat wat...
Re: Kite size
You're gonna love this sport! I'm at 185lbs and an '08 Cabrinha Switchblade at 12m with a Crazyfly All Around board at 145cm is my most used combo. Sometimes I substitute a 12m 2007 Crossbow which has a better range and is also an excellent kite. This combo is good for me with wind at 16-27kt. For l...

Tue: Forecasts show starting out SE for a few hours midday; maybe WBL? May try to be there by 11 if it develops as expected, for a couple of hours.

Check this out, for $25 each:

I got these (each shade) and they're great. Great optics and never come off me.

Re: What does everyone fly?
Nice snow kite video, and again, not many foils there. In my experience, foils don't depower as well as the bow or hybrid kite inflatables, and aren't as maneuverable. IMHO (I'm not a rep) I have a set of inflatables, Slingy and Cabs, and 3 foils: 2 Ozone Accesses and a 7.5 Frenzy. I finally sold an...

Loopy kites wear lines, and other lines of concern
My lines get pretty frayed from looping the kite a lot, and all in first 3-4 feet above the bar. Is there some kind of wax or spray you can rub on the lines in those vulnerable areas to get some more life out of them? I have swapped ends on the lines and that keeps em going a bit longer. I also noti...

Re: Discuss Saftey of Recovering Kiter with a Boat
And (oops); here's a problem with the backwards technique Obviously, if you have a boat with a low transom this would not be a good idea in heavy chop! Floundering in heavy waves with a kite attached is an ugly image! Maybe stick to a pontoon or a larger walleye type boat with a deep V designed for ...

Re: Discuss Saftey of Recovering Kiter with a Boat
Ok, I think I'll try a different "tack"!! I can fully understand why a jetski won't work from upwind; you can't back it up and maintain control, and you need to maintain thrust to keep it under control so you need to keep moving. You can't hold in position. And it's much easier to reach ou...

Re: Discuss Saftey of Recovering Kiter with a Boat
Tom: I've done this many times using a pontoon boat. Picking up a finished kiter in open water is tricky but doable. JRN's post is great. But since I don't have the skills of the Padre pros I use a different technique that works better for me. I keep a 100' plastic rope (ski type) with a 5" flo...

Big Marine Lake
Too lazy to drive to Waconia or Mille Lacs from Stillwater area, I drove the to Big Marine in northern Washington Co instead to try it with a NW wind. I was rewarded with a fantastic session. I launched at the boat landing at the west end of Lomond Trail, about 2/3 of the way down the east side of t...

Re: WB at 9:15am anyone?
Thanks for the great info on Rutherford, Kevin. Sounds like it should work today. (and I'm too lazy to drive 4 hours to/from Milly) Hope to make it before noon. Oops; on second look at the winds, I don't have anything that will handle gusts to 40. Guess I'll reconsider!

Re: WB at 9:15am anyone?
How is Rutherford (WBL) in a SW wind? Straight onshore, but the fetch is alot better than Ramsey with a SW, which will be very gusty.

I also loved the SX 151 in light wind. Not quite a Spleen Door for light wind, but is much more maneuverable.

Re: PADRE FOR ROCK BOTTOM
just got back from 6 days at South Padre, rode everyday except the travel day down. Last year I learned to stay upwind there, and this year I took it the next step. What a great place! I also kited with lakawan Mike Kellet, which was fun, Mike! Did the North Flatts the whole time, but the wind was d...
