Re: Balsam Lake WI on Saturday 1/31 and Sunday 2/1

I was thinking the same thing for Saturday. Only I am looking at the South public access of Bone Lake a few miles Northeast of Balsam Lake. Bone Lake lines up nice for the NNW winds. The NOAA interactive snow map shows 10-14 inches in a relatively small area around these lakes.

Saturday Sturgen Lake

Today looks good for Sturgen Lake. The wind looks much better up there. South wind 13 to 18 kts starting just after noon. They got more snow than the Cities and it should soften up nice in the warm sun. The public access on the north end of the lake shapes up nice for the SSW winds. the surface shou...

Best day of the season! 6-8 inches of supper soft butter smooth snow on top of a great firm base. Great steady wind for great boosting. It doesn't get any better. Still time to make it for sunset.

Saturday and Sunday

Mill Lacs looks excelent for Saturday afternoon! New soft snow surface looked to be holding up well on th web cams Fri evening. Good SSE wind and warm sun in the afternoon. Garrison looks to be the best area. I should be there by 2:00pm. On Sunday the wind and sun look much better at Wild Rice Lake ...

I'm thinking about kite Island, but am open to other places. Let me know where you are going. A little terrain exploration also might be fun. I will try to get out about 11:00am.

Re: Mille Lacs this weekend?

Will be on the East or North side of Mille Lacs by 11:00am Saturday. Bring the sun block. 8) Will be looking for the best launch spot starting at the public access just South of 18, if not good, proceeding to the best place on the way to Ready Creek. Will try to post the final location. Or, call: 6f...

Re: Friday could be an Epic Day on Mille Lacs

I have had no problem parking at Izaty's in the past, altough it's been a while. Usually parked right wher the ice road would go out onto the ice. The parking lot by the Bar/Rest. is not far if need be. I don't know the ice or slush conditions there, maybe we should pick an alternate spot if it ends...

Friday could be an Epic Day on Mille Lacs

Up to a foot of new snow is possible. That would be about 2 feet since last Friday! Last Sunday was great wind and snow. The wind should be 20+ NNE. More mid-winter conditions - don't miss it! I should be there about noon. Still figuring out where to launch. Last week the east side had more slush an...

Re: Mille Lacs Sunday - Big Wind and Snow

Not quite that big Jerry. We saw 40 at one point, but not 50+ like that day. It was still snowing hard and blowing 20+ when we left. With the new snow and 30+ inches of ice, we will likely be able to ride ice on the 1st of May. :?

Mille Lacs Sunday - Big Wind and Snow

Big East wind and 5-8" new snow for Sunday. Webcams look great. Plan to be on the Southwest side by about noon. Will either be just South of Rum Creek, or along the frontage road by the Subway/gas station/Budget Host Inn.

Could be mid-winter conditions with a lot of wind!

There is some thin icy crust in the near shore areas of WBL, but the center areas were good. Just watch out for the bad stuff around the shore. 8)

Re: Where is the Snow?

The best snow is 3.5-4 hours away. Gile, WI has 20" plus. Lake Vermilion has over a foot of new Pow. Kabatogama has lots of snow and fresh Pow. Anywhere short of these areas is spotty snow and the lakes are ice/snow mix. I may head way up North for the best snow. Still trying to figure out the ...
