Re: Kite Island

Anyone heading to the island today. Could be a chance for some high speed runs on 9 or 7 meter. Most of the water has drained from the big snow melt. the surface is down to just a very fast thin slush layer.

Re: New Ice?

I rode yesterday on Browns bay. It was more waterskiing than snow skiing. The lake was flooded with 3 to 4 inches of water. I put plastic bags between my boot shells and liners and Plastic bags on outside of boots before stepping into the bindings. It was allot of fun. I was slightily over powered o...

Re: MTKA

Another good launch point is The corner of Browns bay where co rd 15 makes a sharp bend and goes up to 50. It is the area between the marinas and the bend in the road. If it is not too crowded with fisherman you can just pull over and walk on to lake. I am packing up and heading over their.

Re: So.... are we SOL now?

Sunday Jan 1st I kited Phelps bay with skiis. I was surprised how well they worked. My 1st session of the year was on skiis at Sweede and it was sweet. But after the rain and melt I have been riding the switch blade since. However now it is way too rough for switchblade or skates. The surface sunday...

I stopped by sweede after work on Friday and saw Brian preparing to pump up his machine. I can confirm he is correct about conditions. I am gathering my winter gear and heading to sweede myself. Snow kite season has arrived.

Re: Ice. Got Any??

Upper lake Minnetonka frooze over last night. Lower lake is still open water. Without snow to insulate it, we should form an inch a day. Making upper lake safe by Sunday. I am sure swede is safe now. The season is about to begin. Lets hope it thickens up then gets a nice snow fall near the end of ne...

Re: Hi from Lakeville

2 years ago I only had 3 weeks I could not kite. It was in the fall between my last water session and 1st snow session. In the spring I was snow kiting in Utah and came home to open water. So I had no gap in riding. It all depends on weather. My latest water sesion ever was on a windsurfer Dec 21st....

Re: Incident at Waconia

Wow, poles don't give much. That could have been much worse. When I saw the wind Sunday, I thought it had too much east in it to be good at Waconia and went to Washington. Glad I did now. Glad you will live to kite again Kevin. I used an 11 at Washington. It was not enough in the lulls. But was just...

Re: Loosening knots in kite lines

Sometimes I find a knot in one of my kite lines. I find if you get the line wet and pinch it gently with a plyers the the knot will loosen up. It is best to find plyers that have a smooth jaw. Notched jaws may put extra wear on the line. It might take 5 to 10 minutes of pinching to get it to loosen ...

Re: Kite lines

Last spring I was sending my nine meter T2 and starting to edge hard for a nice kicker wave. Instead of a nice jump my kite started to spin out of control. I pulled the release and found I had snapped a front line. This scared me. I was jumping kind of high at times over the ice with those same line...

Re: Kiting at Captiva Island Florida

I have seen kiters on fort myers beach. Also as you cross the toll bridge to sanibel island. You will see kiters and windsurfers launching just to the right or left of the toll bridge on sanibel island if the wind is up. On Mcgreggor about 1/2 mile before the toll bridge to Sanibel you will find Ace...

Re: solution with connecting 2 ronstan kite blocks????

When modifying my bridal on my now sold Cabrihna croosbow 16 I had a the same problem. I just used 800lb kite line. make some passes through the islet and use a square knot. Then do it again untill you feel you have the strength you need. Lighter than a piece of chain.
happy kiting

Re: snow accumulation

Minnetonka went from some of the best untracked snow to hard ice in 24 hours. The rain turned it into one big slush lake that has now frozen into hard ice. The small amount of sleet and snow is blowing around leaving large ice patches all over. Where snow mobiles or 4 wheelers went through the slush...
