I agree with Adam - I keep my front foot in the strap as long as my legs can handle the position. For me, removing both feet disrupts my weight position too much and I end up coming out of the turn. The rest of that stuff, I have no clue - it just happens. Commitment is important as well. If you hes...

No! Absolutly not! The lake temperature averages near 40 degrees year-round. If you go and sail on a HOT day when the wind is offshore, the cold subsurface water will be upwelling and you will find VERY cold water. But if you sail during the summer in shore break, in onshore conditions, the sun warm...

Randy - Monday was sailable but I don't think anyone went out. Tuesday never really got strong enough. You know me, if its not 30, its not happening.. By the way, I was in the Gorge one day last week - sunny, 90 degrees, 40+ winds and I didn't sail! What is this world comming to?! Jim - as far as th...

15 knots would be fine. As the Professor says, it would be tricky to get rigged and particularly out of the water. But at 15 knots you wouldn’t have difficulty getting out through the shore break either. A 15 knot wind is not uncommon on even “nice” days and there are plenty of boats out. I really b...

no you won't need a dry suit that late, conditions will be variable, from all directions - madeline - launch from the public beach in LaPoint or from big bay campground. The islannds make for quite varible wind without a strong weather system.. - ps - running down long island from madeline in a nort...

The conditions you have read here about Superior are largely the result of the high hills on the north and south shores and heating on land causing enhanced “sea breeze” conditions. If you watch the near shore marine forecast, you will see increased wind speeds for Two Harbors to Duluth to Port Wing...

Hey Rob - In one of my other lives, I get paid to share Lake Superior experiences with people from all walks of life. In teaching off-shore sailing, Students get to experience the lake far off shore, in the middle of the night. On a night when the top of your mast is cutting through the milky-way an...

Missed a great day. I think we have two new converts to sailing Superior. Chris was out for 6 hours! You the man! And yes - even Jon J. was out. He made it look easy, like he's been sailing 5 days a week.

I'm in (at some point). Since its supposed to be a gale all the day and into tonight, when were you thinking about going out? I don't imagine we would last more than three hours... Give me a call. (the wind at my anemometer is reading in the 40's right now.)

So How Was Tuesday?

Chris, Ben -

So how was it? (Lake Superior @ Park Point) I was out for about two hours by myself - WAY over powered and having a ball.. The wind was 35 to 45. Ben, I saw you had a 4.0 and powered OK? I just wish I could have hung around long enough to sail with you guys..

Superior is fired up

The weather stations around Duluth don't refect the current conditions on Park Point right now. Sky harbor does not seem to be measuring accuratly with this wind direction.

My anemometer is measuring 35 to 45 and increasing. The lake is white with caps.

Chirs, Ben are you up for it?

Sunday's Weather

I made it down to the swap on Saturday - good to meet you Coach and Tighe, good to see you Randy. It's really hard coming down to the cities this time of year. Its like we don't even live on the same planet in Duluth. (no nasty comments) I left St. Paul to head north on Sunday at about 5:30PM. It wa...
