Best Kites for Minnesota

Greetings everyone, I took a business trip to the Dominican Republic, and survived! While there, I threw my budget to the wind and took some lessons/rental to relearn kiteboarding on the water. It's reignited my interest in getting back into this sport in Minnesota, so here's my question: What kites...

The board I made was really simple. I used birch plywood into a simple oval-shaped board, and coated it with marine epoxy, got some cheap $5 beach sandals from Target for footpads (I just cut off the toestrap) and mounted them using contact cement (I would suggest not using contact cement now). I bo...

I use infinology.net for http://www.ewb-mn.org , they are cheap, have really good uptime, a lot of tools, and NO random advertisements. I used to use godaddy.com, they are good, but they try to make money off you in as many ways as possible. godaddy: "Would you like to purchase XYZ service with...

I wax my board once every month or two. Like you mention, I don't think it is a big deal since we ride mostly on the edge. I typically wax just to keep the surface from getting marred. The first time I tried it, I used a plastic scraper and just made a mess of things, leaving all sorts of bumps on t...

Thanks to Darlene for letting me try out that Turbo Diesel after struggling to keep moving with my B4. Don't worry about snow kiting here, if global warming keeps up, you'll be able to water kite during winter in 2-3 years...

I'm also thinking of heading to the Bear today and don't really know the best spot to go... I'll try out Ramsey at about 12:00 unless anyone knows where the conditions are better.

Duluth Ice

I'll be up in Duluth over the weekend... Is Wild Rice lake (or any others) in good conditions for kiting? - - Garrett

Are the fields, that you talk about, state-owned land? Or is it privately owned (and riding with owner's permission)? I'd hate to just find an empty field, ride on it assuming it's public, and find out I was tresspassing.

I'm half-way done making an an ice proa based off the instructable. I'll be working tonight to finish it up by the weekend. My welding skills kinda suck, so we'll see if it can hold up to any punishment. I'll post pictures when I'm done, but so far it looks like something from junkyard wars.

Hi Doug, I'm not quite sure how that windsurf board is constructed (i'm not a windsurfer), could you post a picture of the damage? Maybe it would be more clear to someone what you could do to fix it. I thought that a windsurf board would be foam-core with a fiberglass exterior, but I'm not sure what...

Hi gopher, I'm not a sailor, but I got out of jail ... i mean .. college, not too long ago. I really am skeptical that a slightly lighter board will help you plane faster, you're on the right track with comparing the overall difference in weight (since the board has to lift itself + you + stuff + wa...

Water temps...

Hey everyone, I'm looking for water temps for the lakes around here (i.e. Mille Lacs), historical averages would be nice too. When I check google for "minnesota lake temperatures", I get the forecast for Minnesota Lake, MN... :-/ What genius named that town? Anyway, I've tried several keyw...

Wow, this is a great application for plotting past weather data. The other day I was just wondering where to get historical data so I could see what the actual windspeeds were when I was kiting... I also think it would be interesting to superimpose forecasted data onto the actual data to visualize h...
